Chapter 11: Biters

Misty woke up that morning with Ash lying next to her. She giggled, because something was scratching her left side. It was Ash. "Ash, <chuckle> w-what are you doing?"

"Good. You're up." He stopped tickling her. "We need to get moving, we won't get out Thunder Badge sitting around here all day." Ash insisted.

"Yeah, you're right." Misty gave in, and sighed. She was still tired. "Is something the matter, Misty? You don't look so good. You look tired, maybe weak."

"I feel tired. The next place we go after here is Diglett's Cave, right?"

"Yeah. We missed that place last time, for the- should I mention it?"

"No. I know. <sigh> The St. Anne." She yawned, once again reminding Ash of her tiredness. "You need your rest. Come on. I'll help you out to Diglett's Cave & then I'll go back for the badge." He wouldn't leave & not come back without that badge. She then collapsed, and Ash saw. A lack of blood. Something must've cut the back of her left leg, and it bled all night. "But that couldn't be," Ash thought, "something had to have kept it open all night." Taking a closer look at it, he saw a weird looking bite. There was a small, untouched piece of skin in the middle. "A Zubat." He couldn't think of that now he had to save her! He hailed a passing taxi, and they were off to a hospital. She was pale, but still breathing & had her eyes open a little. 2 minutes passed, and Ash paid the fare. Misty got rushed into the E.R. for a blood transfusion. The doctors could find out their blood types just by looking at their Pokédexes. They were both AB type- universal donor & recipient. A doctor then put Ash in a seat, and he took a blood sample to check for AIDS & other diseases. Nothing. Ash was healthy. They took a unit, and Ash got some juice & a cookie to make sure he didn't get weak like Misty did. She was still blacked out as the doctors gave Misty the blood they had taken from Ash. He looked in despair as he prayed Misty's immune system wouldn't reject his blood. 3 hours later, she woke up to see a caretaker taking notes. She didn't talk. She had nothing to say. Misty sort of missed Ash, but at looking at the medical form on the desk next to her bed, she knew Ash was with her. She smiled at this thought, but he wasn't really with her. Misty was still bored, but knew she needed her rest. The caretaker noticed her eyes open & walked over to her. "How do you feel, Ms. Waterflower?"

"Waterflower? How'd she know my last name?" Then she gasped. "Oh." She noticed the open blue Pokédex the caretaker was sifting through. "I still feel a little weak. Where's Ash?"

"You mean that boy that was with you?"

"Yeah. He had a Pokémon League cap..."

"I know now. He's at the Vermilion City Gym, getting his badge. Take a look." A public service channel was for nothing but watching Vermilion Gym battles. Ash was creaming Lt. Surge. He won easily, and then the screen went blank. "He won." Misty thought. "He's got 3 now."

Ash walked back into the hospital & asked for Misty's room. They told him that she was waiting for him to pick her up. She left, and they headed for Celadon. A night back in Saffron, and they're in Celadon.

Chapter 12: Ash vs. Gary: In Celadon Gym?

Ash walked into the Celadon Gym, Misty following. No one was guarding the door. "Someone's battling," Ash thought, "I wonder who it is!" Then he heard a big 'Nooooooooooooo!' coming from further inside. It didn't sound like a cry of pain, but of defeat. Then once he saw who it was, he gasped. It was Gary, the only person(s) he hated more than Team Rocket. He pulled Misty into a bush, and put a hand over her mouth. She was trying to speak, but Ash wasn't going to show his face at a Gym to Gary. Not now- not ever. "Keep it down, Misty!" Ash whispered angrily into her ear. "I don't want Gary finding us here!"

"'Course you don't, Ash." Gary heard their muffling. "So... you given up trying to be a Pokémon Master yet?"

"Where do you get those stupid questions like that? Why else would I be at a Gym?"

"It's easy to see why. You finally realized that you're so weak, you decided to get some classes! Hahaha!"

"Yeah right, take a look." Ash knew he had no choice but to show Gary his badges. "3 huh?" Gary sweatdropped. Misty got her only badge out of her backpack, which wasn't easy considering she was on Ash's lap. It was harder because Ash was holding her under the suspenders, right on the skin. She didn't complain.

It was a very dangerous scene if you're Gary. 2 people that have a lot of trust in each other against you. "4! What? You actually got into the partner division?"

Misty put a face of triumph on, smiled, then said: "Well, we did. See ya at the Pokémon League!" Misty started to laugh a little. "So Gary," Ash prodded, "how many badges have you gotten?"

He sweatdropped. He'd never been asked that before from Ash with that tone of voice, much less Misty. He hated to be made fun of, but he knew he should answer. "1." He held out a Boulder Badge.

Misty started talking again. "He was easy. I beat Brock with 1 Pokémon."

"Well, yeah, for someone who specializes in Water Pokémon. I beat him with 2."

"Get to the point, which of us are you gonna battle?"

"You, Ash." Ash only smirked. "Go, Wartortle." Gary boomed. "1 on 1. Agreed?"

Any expert trainer would have insisted for 2, but Erika battled Gary 5 on 5, so he had to accept. "Okay."

    "Pikachu, go!"

"Pika!" It ran on all fours into the space between them. "Wartortle, Skull Bash!"

"Pikachu, Agility!" Wartortle missed. Pikachu stopped running. "Pikachu, Thundershock!" The electricity courses through Wartortle. Gary would be all out of Pokémon if he kept at it. He forfeited.

Chapter 13: Erika: A Rematch

Ash forced open the gates to the battle zone of the Celadon Gym. He had a bit of a :-( face on, but was still a little happy how he had taken care of Gary so quickly. She recognized this face. Erika sent out her Vileplume. Her Gloom had gotten into the area where the Gym kept all their Leaf Stones & got too much of the mysterious radiation. It sort of liked being so big. Ash knew how to beat it. Erika called for 1 on 1. Ash knew Gary didn't fold to her easily with those words. "I'll start off with Pidgeot!" Erika immediately sweatdropped. "Vileplume, Sleep Powder!"

"Pidgeot, Whirlwind it away!" <whirlwind blows it back into the girls in the battlefieldside of the bleachers> "Now, Wing Attack!" Ash thought this would be easy. Vileplume did get severely damaged, but Erika gave it a Hyper Potion. "Amazing- how does she afford that stuff?" "Vileplume, Razor Leaf!"

"Pidgeot, another Whirlwind! Wing Attack!" All the people in the bleachers had fallen asleep, and now they got covered in leaves. Misty wasn't one of those people- she was standing behind Ash, as always. Another Hyper Potion healed it. "This can't be," Ash thought, "I can't lose to her because she's so rich. I need to finish it off in 1 blow." He started thinking through all the attacks he had taught Pidgeot. He kept drawing blanks while some more Wing Attacks & Hyper Potions get this battle nowhere.

... 20 minutes pass of this...

"I've got it!" Ash yelled. "Pidgeot quit using Wing Attack. Hit it with your Razor Wind!" Erika thought this was another Whirlwind. It looked like it, but it wasn't. She told Vileplume to duck, exposing its large head petal to the air. "Fire!" Ash cried. 3 seconds later, Pidgeot let it go. Vileplume was fainted. Ash earned his Rainbow Badge. They left the gym. "You were awesome, Ash." Misty congratulated.

"Thanks, but now you have to be the amazing one."

"Wha-what do you mean?" Her head was spinning.

"You have to earn them. The badges. You need 3." Ash jumped on top of her, hugging her. "I hope you can do it. Our dreams depend on it."

They were in a meadow just outside Celadon Gym. "I have to. I will. Hey, <throws Ash off of herself> look over there! Ash picked himself up to see Misty with her Pokédex analyzing it. "Vaporeon. The Bubble Jet Pokémon. Has the special ability to melt into water once it learns Acid Armor. Can also learn certain Ice-type attacks, although it is strictly a Water-type." Misty watched it dive into a nearby pond. It was clear, but still had a few lily pads on it. The sun was beginning to come down, and it was around 5:30 that night.

Chapter 14: An Evolved Eevee For Misty

"Misty, come on, we have to get back to our hotel room."

"You go. I want to catch it."

    "You sure?"

"You can come if you want."

"I will." Misty jumped in. The water was a little warm. Ash followed reluctantly. He wasn't sure about this. Misty was confident until it suddenly appeared right in front of her. She almost screamed, but stopped herself by literally strangling herself with her hands. Ash sweatdropped. He wasn't sure what to do, so he just stayed there, about 5 feet behind Misty, just tilting his head and grimacing. She almost knew what Ash was thinking and put a hand behind her like a stop sign for a pedestrian. He snuck up so he could reach out & get into her backpack, but Misty didn't jump or get mad at Ash. She just let him reach in and get her communicator. Ash clipped it onto her ear. "It's a little tight," she thought to herself, "but I won't bug him. I guess he likes it that way." She chuckled to herself, and then felt Ash after it again. Then it struck her. Ash heard everything she thought. Ash loosened it. "This one's yours, Misty, if you want it."

"I do want it. Misty calls Starmie!" with a determined sound in her voice. "Starmie," it turned toward her, (reading her mind) and then just floated there waiting for a battle command. "no wait, do I use Hyper Beam, or do I just use a Tackle attack?"

Misty had cracked again- she forgot! "Hyper Beam." Ash boomed. "All right then, Starmie, Hyper Beam!" Misty unconsciously backed into Ash, and he deliberately thudded her into the murky bottom. And not without a reason. He was on top, and knew this would hurt. Misty was struggling. She didn't want to be stuck on the bottom, but wanted to be on the top. She asked Ash, who unknowingly accepted, and they traded. "Ash," Misty warned, "get ready to be crushed." His eyes became as wide as saucers, and sweatdropped heavily.
