Chapter 5: The Road to Pewter City

Misty was sleeping again in her room at the Gym, which she considered her house. Ash was still training his Pokémon, so he’d sleep in his own room tonight. It was 10:30. The next morning…

Misty woke up. She knew today was a day of travel, and a big day- for her. This would be the first time she ever battled a Gym Leader. She woke Ash up, and they left. Traveling on Route 3 was easy. It was mid-June, which meant summer. The Pokémon League Games for the Partnership Division was going to be held on the second full week of September. The Individual Division was held the first full week of September.

She slowly got out of her bed & tried to walk out of her room, when she heard a knock. "Misty, are you in there, honey?". She immediately knew the only person who would call her ‘honey’ would be Ash. Both her parents had died, long, long ago…

"Yeah, and I was about to open the door." she responded. She opened the door herself, and saw Ash standing right there in front of her with a serious look on her face. "Misty," he said, "we need to leave now. If we leave now, I’m guessing that we’ll be in Pewter City by 1:30 this afternoon."

Misty reluctantly replied, "Let’s go."

Chapter 6: Misty vs. Brock Again???

Once Ash & Misty had made it to Pewter City, neither of them was tired, despite them running the whole way. Misty was eager to get on with this, but knew she’d have it pretty easy with Brock using rock-types & herself using Water types, but she was still concerned. Ash noticed she was shaking a little. "Misty, is something wrong?"

"Yeah. I wonder if I could win that Gym battle with the Pokémon I have, or should I start switching?"

"Well, if you ask me, I’d be running to that Gym right now, thinking ‘That Boulder Badge is as good as mine!’"

Her memory sparked to life. "Hey! That’s the same thing you said when we were back at Saffron City with Haunter. Except it was the Marsh Badge that time, not the Boulder Badge." Ash only blushed. "Now come on." Misty really wanted to get this easy battle over with…

Misty was standing in the Gym, with Ash up in the stands. Brock stood before them. "So Misty, we meet again. 3 on 3. Ready?" he said defiantly, but inside, he was nervous. He had battled Misty once before (AN: my first fanfic), and lost, so she was certain that a Boulder Badge would be theirs. She sent out her first Pokémon. Staryu. Brock chose his Zubat. Ash looked on from the bleachers, along with Brock’s younger brothers & sisters. Both of them had determined looks on their faces. Misty’s point of view mode on… now.

I looked on at Brock with a mean look on my face. Not because I needed to- but because I wanted to. My eyes felt like they were about to bulge out of my sockets as I glared at him. I was not concerned. I had beaten him once. He had sent his Zubat out first. That would cause his downfall- I was sure of that. I started. "Staryu, Swift!" I knew this rarely missed its target. It had only missed once- and that wasn’t one of my Pokémon, it was 1 of Richie’s! His Pikachu, of all things! The Zubat fainted, and the creaming of Brock was beginning. It was easy. All he had left were some Rock & Fire types, both weak to me. Ash had been right- the Pokémon I had were all I needed. Misty’s points of view had been turned off.

Misty had won her first battle & earned a Boulder Badge. Ash had forgotten that they already had a Cascade Badge. So they wouldn’t bother with going back to Cerulean. Instead, they’d go back to Saffron City.

Chapter 7: Saffron Trading Madness

Ash & Misty finally made it back to Saffron, after a day on the road. It was late, and they decided to get a hotel room. Misty said, "Make sure it isn’t that same place Team Rocket nearly got Pikachu from."

Pikachu replied, "Pika! <Misty’s right.>". Ash knew it must have been grumpy. Then he remembered the first time he battled Sabrina. That was a nightmare- literally. Once he had lost, he was tempted to tell Misty his feelings, but didn’t. Ash saw a hotel already that had a vacancy. He led Misty to it, and they checked in. Misty wanted to shower, and so did Ash. Ash got into his swimsuit, and Misty settled for a bikini. They both agreed to bring their Pokédexes. They were going to get some Pokémon so Ash could have it easier at the Saffron City Gym. He smirked thinking about this. Misty called him- she was ready. (AU: If you’re wondering what AU stands for, it stands for Author’s Note. On the other hand, if you’re talking about space, Astronomical Unit. ((1 AU is the distance from the Earth to the Sun.)) Anyway, the note their Pokédexes are waterproof. Silph Co. foresaw this before the first once were out.) Ash was, too, and he brought all their Poké Balls with them, including Misty’s. He knew they would be needed.

Ash reached to open the door, but Misty opened it in front of him. He was lucky that it opened into the room & not in his face. When he looked back up at her, he was amazed. Her hair bun was undone, and Ash had never seen her wear this bikini before. He smiled & blushed a little. It seemed funny to Misty. It was like Ash saying out loud, "Wow Misty, you look beautiful.". But he didn’t, but she knew what he was thinking. She only said, "Do ya like how I look?". She knew she was blushing a little, but she totally ignored it.

Ash barely said yes. A snap of her fingers got him out of his ‘I love Misty’ mode and into his Pokémon training mode. He had both of their’s Poké Balls with him and Misty had been acting serious this whole time. She hadn’t been gawking at him this whole time… or had she?

Once they had been finished getting their bodies cleaned up, now came the difficult part: working out details for trades with each other to get more Psychic resistant Pokémon on Ash’s team from Misty’s; or just really fast Pokémon. He sent home his Bulbasaur, and got his Scyther. He smirked once this transport had been finished. "So Misty," Ash said over the sound of the water bouncing off their bodies & the sides of the shower, "what do you want for your Starmie?"

"Shoot, that’s a tough one." Just then he saw a message blaring coming from his Pokédex. "Ash! Wonderful news! Your Weedle evolved into a Beedrill!" It was Professor Oak’s recorded voice. Misty sighed. She knew Ash would want it, and saw him pressing buttons frantically to get that Pokémon transported to him. He sent back his Charmander.

"Misty, what do you want?" He handed her his Pokédex with a list of every single Pokémon he had & where it was- here in their hotel room, or with Oak. She eventually chose his Shellder. He groaned. He’d have to send another one back, but knew she’d be feeling the heat when she needed to trade with him to help win a Gym battle. He had the Pokédex’s buttons memorized, like a typist remembers the layout of the letters on keyboards, so he got that transport done quickly. He sent home Butterfree.

"What about Dragonair? That’s resistant to anything."

"Ehh, running out of picks here, just pick one." she gave in, "But now I’m the one who’s transporting! AArrgghh." She sent Horsea back to Cerulean, but she didn’t want to send any of them back. Then they traded Misty’s Dragonair for Ash’s Squirtle. When she saw this ‘Ash’s choice’ on her Pokédex screen, she was impressed by him. She never thought this would be his pick. Once that was done, Misty motioned for the big toe of her left foot to turn the shower water off- mainly to impress Ash. Except she slipped on something- one of those small shampoo bottles that Ash had probably tried to put on a counter, but had slipped off somehow. She fell, and on her back, <pause> and her back had managed to collapse right on top of the (empty) bottle. "Ow!" she cried, and rolled over so her back was facing the sky, and Ash helped her up. He turned the water off, and let the excess water drip off, while he kept Misty on her feet with his arms. Once she managed to get her head to move straight ahead, she tromped out, Ash following. She didn’t even bother to dry herself off- she just threw a shirt on & walked off to their bed. Ash didn’t know what or why she did this, but he mimicked her. Misty climbed in bed, and held the blanket up with an arm, inviting Ash silently. He climbed in silently and smiled at her, quietly stroking her straight, orange hair. He admired her for that- how she didn’t need to wear a hat & still look nice, unlike him. Misty didn’t bother stroking his, but knew he needed comfort- tonight had been busy & relaxing for both of them, and for both of them, the trade-backs & transfer-backs meant their Pokédexes would be in heavy use. She had already given him that Cascade Badge she got after that diving trip, and he pinned it on the inside of his blue & white jacket as if he had won it himself- but he hadn’t. Misty also knew that her sisters respected her now, and Ash knew that too. She knew he liked it- Ash hated it when someone got on her nerves, unless, he was the one who was getting on her nerves. Then her eyes drooped down, and she did one last thing that night. Put a hand on Ash, her true love.
