Jessy was sad. Tomorow was James' birthday, and she didn't have any money for
a gift let alone a gift itself.
"Tomorow, Tomorow, my birthday's Tomorow. It's only a day away!" James sang.
This only made Jessy feel worse.
"Mmmm," Jessy thought. "Maybe I could make him something. Yeah, that's it.
Good idea, Jess." She searched the whole house for materials. She found some rotten
wood, a broken hammer, and some bent up nails. "This won't do." She continued to
think of an idea. Then, it hit her. "Mewoth! He always has money to spare!"
But, when she asked him...
"Sorry, Jess," Meowth said. "I can't help you. I used all my money on a
gift for James. He's gonna love what I got him!"
"Oh, okay," Jessy said sadly. It really wasn't okay. She knew she couldn't
borrow money from James to buy him his own birthday present. She decided to go to the ice
cream parlor down the street. When she got there, she dug into her pockets and found two
quarters. She layed them on the counter.
"I'd like a chocolate milkshake, Ernie," she told the bartender and owner of the
shop. When he gave her her order, she sipped it sadly. So sadly that Ernie noticed.
"What's the matter, little lady?" he asked. Ernie always helped her when she had
problems.
"It's James's birthday Tomorow, and I don't have any more money to buy him a
gift," she poured out to him.
"How 'bout you make him something?" he suggested.
"Tried it."
"Oh. Okay, then why don't borrow some money from Meowth?"
"Tried it."
"Oh, I see."
"Oh, it's hopeless, isn't it?" She looked even sadder. "I really wanted to
get James a good gift. One that says 'I love you'. I wanted to see if he loves me, too.
But, I... I can't." Tears were forming in Jessy's eyes. She let them fall.
"Look, Jess, this is a perfect time to see if James loves you. If he doesn't care
that you didn't get him anything, he probably does love you. If he does care, well,"
he took her hand, "then he's really not the one for you."
Jessy sobbed. "But, I really want him to be the one for me."
Ernie hung his head. He was thinking of an idea. He looked up. "Mmmm, I know just
what you can give him. And this gift really says I love you." He began wispering in
her ear.....
The next day, Jessy woke up early. She went into the kitchen and began making scrambled
eggs, bacon, toast, and juice. When it was done, she put it on a platter and brought it to
James.
"James, wake up," she said gently. Then she nugged him a little. Slowly, he
opened his eyes. When he sat up, she handed him the platter.
"For me?" he asked, puzzled. Jessy nodded. "Thanks." Then he began to
dig in. When he had finished, Meowth came in. He had a box with him.
"Uh, can I come in?" he asked.
"Sure." James smiled even bigger than before. Meowth hopped on the bed and
handed James the box. James tore into it. Inside was a Pokeball. "What's this?"
he wondered. He threw the Pokeball.
Out came a Ditto. "Cool," James said exitedly.
"Thanks, Meowth. You can go play with him, if you want to." So Meowth and the
new Pokemon ran into the other room to play. Jessy got closer to James.
"And, here's my gift," she told him. Their lips touched.
"Wow," James breathed when they were finished. "That was some gift. Thank
you, Jess."
"Happy Birthday, James," she replied.
