Chapter 10: The Hike to Server
"Yaaaaaaawwwwwwwwnnnnnnnn!" Ash stretched his arms out after
a good night's rest. He knew he had to wake up his friends, even if they were still
sleeping. "Hey Brock, wake up." Ash pushed at the sleeping Brock. "Huh.
AAAHHH! Oh, it's just you Ash. Sorry."
"Doesn't matter. Misty, can you hear me?" Ash gave her a
shove. She opened her eyes, then smiled. "Hi Ash. We need to pack up & get to
Server." They packed up, and even without eating breakfast, continued along the road
on foot. "Hey, Brock! When do we have to be at Server?" Misty asked when they
got to the top of a hill that overlooked Server. It was only about a half hour.
"It says guests should check in today, anytime, spend a night,
then the ship departs." Brock answered after he read the schedule.
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Ash said, excited.
Then he ran down the hill. He stopped abruptly. "Hey, why's this road washed
away?"
"There must have been a rainstorm when we were sleeping in the
cave." Brock said. "AAHH!"
Misty: "Brock, how'd you get down there?"
"<groan> I fell in- how else? Hey, look at this! There's an
edge where I came in. If you jump off, you land in a lake...<looks around>... which
leads straight ot Server! Ash, Misty, jump down here with me! Ash jumped in, and it was
about 16 feet to the lake. Misty jumped in, and it was only about 9 feet to the lake.
"Cool! Every time you jump, it goes down." Ash noticed.
"Let's see if it's deep enough to dive in. Misty calls
Starmie!" she cried. Starmie dove in, and it came back up. It was 10 feet deep: more
than enough water there. "Squrtle! I choose you!" Ash grabbed Squirtle, Misty
grabbed Starmie, and Brock grabbed onto Ash & Misty's free arms. "Jump!"
Misty cried and they dove in. Their legs hit the sandy bottom. Then they all surfaced, and
gasped for air. "Well, this is familiar." Ash said, a
little mad, but he realized this was the only way to Server.
An while later, Misty saw Server when they were still about 100 feet
from the shore. "Wow! I never realized Server was so beautiful!" she squealed in
happiness. Now we need to go to the dock, check in, get a hotel room, change, take the
dirty clothes to the dry cleaners, and drop our Pokemon at the Pokemon Center."
"Hey, Misty. My Squirtle's tired." Ash said, worried.
"So is Starmie! We have to let go and swim to shore!" Misty
said, concerned. They let go. Ash & Misty barely made it to the shore of the lake.
"Brock!" they screamed, "Are you gonna make it!?!?!?!?"
"Yeah, I-i think so." he spoke back. "Well, there's
nothing we can do but hope for the best, I guess." Misty said to Ash with
dissapointment in her voice.
"You're right, our muscles are too cramped even to get up."
Ash responded sadly. "Wait. Don't you have any more Pokemon?"
"Just Horsea and Goldeen. Horsea's just too weak, and you can't
grab Goldeen, unless you have a rope."
"Hey I know! But first, we need to move away." Ash said,
realizing a ray of hope was left for Brock.
"Well, I'm ready to move!" Misty said, after having stretched
her legs.
"Great, let's go!" They went over to where there was a bench
where some shade was, where rocks made it impossible to climb onto shore. "Okay Ash,
what's your plan?" Misty asked, unsure of what Ash was going to do.
"Pidgeotto, I choose you!" Ash yelled. "Pidgeotto? What
are you gonna do, tell Brock to grab 1 of Pidgeotto's claws?" Misty asked, wondering
what Ash was doing.
"Just watch. Pidgeotto, whirlwind Brock onto the shore!"
Pidgeotto did as Ash said, blowing Brock and water onto the lake beach.
"Good work Pidgeotto, return!"
"Ohh. I feel terrible." Brock moaned, when Misty & Ash
ran up to see if he was okay. "The strength has just been drained from me." They
waited about fifteen minutes, then they checked in for the cruise. Then they spent the
rest of the day resting from that difficult trek.
Chapter 11: The Cruise Begins
The next morning everybody woke up at about the same time, thanks to
Misty. Brock was a little cranky, but realized he shouldn't explode like when they were at
the destination town of the Neesha. "Well, let's get on the ship. Breakfast will be
served on board." Brock said, with a smile on his face.
When they got to the wharf, they all gazed in amazement at the size of
the cruise ship. "Wow. It's huge! Bigger than the late St. Anne!" was all Misty
could say looking at the size of it.
"Well, what are we waiting for? Let's go!" Ash said, ignoring
the size of the ship. They ran up the loading stairway which led to the deck, where a
steward greeted them. "Welcome to the Sea Queen." Ash showed him his ticket.
"Huh? Someone from Bus 1? You must have survived that crash. This way, please."
The steward pointed them to a door, where someone was behind a desk was
taking attendance. "Welcome. Please show me your
ticket stubs. <Ash & friends show him> Ahh, the only 3 who checked in
yesterday. Please step inside."
"Whoa! This place is empty!" Ash, Misty, & Brock noticed
when they walked into the main hall. "Well, we were alone on that
bus." Brock said.
"When I fell, I noticed lots of people who didn't smack into a
bridge pier." Misty shuddered.
"The only person who I know of that survived was only us,
Misty." Ash remembered. "Whoa. I just felt a jolt."
"Hey, over here guys! We're moving!" Brock noticed when he
looked out the window. "Uhh. I'm already seasick."
"Aww, come on Brock! You're seasick already?" Ash & Misty
said in disbelief, rolled their eyes, & looked at each other.
"Well, guess you should go to our quarters. Well stay out here
& maybe buy 1 of those launchers that let you 'throw' Poke Balls
underwater, & of course some Poke Balls!" Misty said, glad the weather was
good for sailing.
"PAGING ASH KETUCHUM'S PARTY. PLEASE COME TO THE BOW DECK A.S.A.P.
THANK YOU."
"Well, let's go." Misty said, wondering what this was about.
They wandered around, found Brock (still seasick), and finally found it. A white haired,
well-built man spoke. "Hello. My name is Johnathan. During this cruise, I'll be your
diving guide. When you're ready to dive at your times, I'll be by the starboard lifeboats,
waiting for you. When you come, be sure to be all suited up. Now I'll describe everything
you don't usually use on a regular dive. There's a underwater communicator, which measures
your brain waves. To turn it on, flip this red switch. It fits onto your ear, like so. To
say something to some one, just think about it. Don't say it literally, for obvious
reasons. But don't wander around in your head, because everyone will hear it. You probably
bought a Poke Ball launcher to 'throw' your Poke Balls with underwater. Did you buy
one?"
"Yes, we did. Here it is." Misty replied, handing Jonathan
the launcher. He explained how to use it. When he finished, he told them, "Please,
let me see your ticket stubs." He wrote something on the back of them. "On the
back of your stubs are your dive times. Don't forget! See you tomorrow." and he
walked away. "Well, he's nice, that's for sure." Misty commented. They walked
back to their stateroom.
"Let's go eat dinner now." Ash said, starved.
"I don't want to. I just want to sleep now." Brock groaned,
seasick.
"Well, okay, if you want to miss this huge buffet dinner."
Misty groaned, dissapointed.
"It's all ours for the taking, too. There's nobody else on the
ship but the crew!" Ash said with glee. "Let's dig in!" he yelled, and
Misty & Ash began to eat. Then they went to their
quarters, where they managed to get some sleep.
Chapter 12: The First (full) Day on the Sea Queen
Ash & friends woke up early that morning, only to find out that
they weren't at the reef yet because there was a storm at sea that night. They didn't
notice because they were sleeping. Brock asked the captain, "How long will it be
until we're at the reef?"
"Oh, I'd say about 1:00 PM. The dive times will not be affected at
all, we'll just be late getting there." the captain replied.
"What's the temperature of the water?" Misty asked.
"About 85 degrees Farenheit. Definetly not freezing!" he
replied.
"Well, our dive time is at 2. It's only 6 AM, so let's wander
around the ship until 1, then meet each other at our room." Ash suggested.
"Guys, I don't feel like swimming. When you dive, can you catch me
a Poliwhirl? That's what I want for my Water Pokemon." Brock mumbled, after looking
out a window.
"Sure, but they're rare. How about a Poliwag?" Misty replied.
"See you at 1!" And she walked off. Ash went to the main hall, to get some
breakfast. Brock went to their room, and Misty did too. Then she set off for the bow, to
work on her tan. When 1 finally did come, Ash & Misty went to the room. "Are you
sure you don't want to come?" Ash asked.
"<groan> Yeah, I am sure. Remember, Poliwhirl or
Poliwag." Brock murmured. Ash & Misty suited up, and they were finished by 1:45.
"Well Ash, how do I look?"
"Wow, Misty, you look great! How do I look?" Ash responded.
"You look great, too. We should go find Johnathan at the starboard
lifeboats now." she said happily. They walked over to the lifeboats, and found
Jonathan there. "Well, there you are! Ready?"
Chapter 13: The First Dive
Ash & Misty nodded yes. "My assistant, George, will man the
boat while we're in the water. Follow me." They all followed him to a certain blue
lifeboat,(while the others were orange) and Jonathan told them, "All aboard! 1 of the
crewmen will lower the boat into the water, then George will paddle the boat out there,
then the 3 of us will dive in."
"All right!" Ash & Misty shouted in glee. The boat was
lowered into the water. George almost looked like Jonathan's brother, in Misty & Ash's
eyes. On the boat, they asked, "Are you guys brothers?"
"Yeah, we are." George replied.
"Well, here we are!" Jonathan said, happy. "I'll go
first." He dove in. Then Misty did.
"I need to call Professor Oak & tell him to be ready to for some Pokemon."
Ash called him, and 3 minutes later, he dove in.
"Come on, Ash. What was keeping you?" Ash heard Misty in the
underwater communicator. It even had her actual tone of voice!
"Sorry. I thought I should call Professor Oak, so he'd be ready
for some Pokemon to come in. He thinks this is a good place to spend my money from my
mom."
"Well, there's another place you could spend your money." Ash
blushed a little. He knew what Misty meant- he owed her a new bike!
"Come on, you guys. Enough chitchat, let's capture some
Pokemon!" Jonathan said. They swam over Jonathan, can the Pokemon listen in on our
conversations over the communicators?" Misty asked.
"No, they can't. It's basically a radio. A high frequency radio
that can read your mind! What Pokemon, in particular, are you looking for?"
"Well, Brock wanted a Poliwhirl, Ash just wants anything he can
get his hands on, and the same goes for me." Misty said, turning her communicator off
to wonder about something. What DO I want in particular, anyway? I know, a Seaking!
Knowing this, she
turned her communicator back on. "Hey Ash, Jonathan! I know what I want!"
"What Pokemon do you want?" Ash & Jonathan asked in
unison.
"A Seaking!" she said in excitement.
"Well Misty, here's the launcher! It's loaded, and there's your
Seaking!" Ash said, hurriengly, wanting to see how the launcher worked. Misty pulled
the trigger. Ash saw the ball go through the water, as fast and as far as he threw it in
dry air. Misty had aimed it right, but she flew backward onto the sandy bottom. The
launched ball hit the wild Seaking, capturing it. "Misty, are you all right?"
Ash asked as he came toward her, holding the Poke Ball with Seaking in it.
"Yeah, I'm fine, just a little stunned. That launcher is
really powerful! And thanks." taking the Poke Ball from Ash. Ash helped her out of
the sand. "Should we catch a Poliwhirl, like Brock said, or let the excitement of the
launcher go to him?" Misty asked.
"I think we should do what he says, and catch it for him."
Ash said.
"What Pokemon do you really want to capture, anyway?" she
asked.
"I don't know, I'm going to turn my communicator off now, so I can
think about it." Ash switched it off. "Hmm... maybe I want a Seel, Shellder
& a Staryu, but not a Krabby, because I already got one. Yeah... I'll tell them now.
(in his head, not out loud)" He flipped the switch again. "Johnathan, Misty. I
know what I want now!" They didn't respond, even though they were in plain view. Ash
tapped Misty's shoulder, and she flipped herself over, facing the sky, to look at Ash. Ash
pointed to her underwater communicator (on her ear) & then he saw it. It was in the
off position. Misty knew what he wanted. She flipped the switch. "What, Ash? Made a
decision?" she asked.
"Yeah. A Seel, Shellder, and a Staryu. Let's get Jonathan to flip
his switch so he can hear me." Ash said.
"Let me do it, Ash." she replied.
"Okay. Don't tap him too hard." he warned. "Remember,
point to his communicator, so he'll know what you mean." Misty took a deep breath,
(Ash noticed there was lots & bigger bubbles, and she closed her eyes when she
exhaled) and tapped him. Jonathan turned, and looked at Misty. She poined to his
communicator. He flipped the switch and said: "What Misty? We've only got 10 minutes
of air left."
"Ash made a descision on what Pokemon he wants." she replied.
"So which Pokemon do you want?" he asked.
"A Seel, Shellder, and a Staryu." he replied, hope in his
voice.
"Shellder & Staryu are common around here, and Seel is not
that rare, but I'd say you'd probably want to spend your next dive
looking for a Seel." Jonathan replied.
"Hey, Ash. Here comes a Staryu now! Here's the launcher."
Misty said, wanting to see Ash take a shot on the shooter.
"Thanks, Misty." The Staryu saw them, and was swimming away.
Ash fired the launcher, and, like Misty, put his back into the sand. The Poke Ball was
going faster than the wild Staryu, and then it was captured, and transported to Oak's lab,
with a flash of light. Misty squealed, "Ash, are you all right?!"
"Yeah, I'm fine. But I can't see you!" he screamed.
"Ash... open your eyes." Misty chuckled.
"Oh yeah, I can see now. Jonathan, we need to topside now. I've
only got 3 minutes of air left which means... you guys have less than a minute!"
Misty & Jonathan checked their air gages. Misty had about 45 seconds, and Jonathan
about 30. Ash heard Misty scream in the communicator. "You guys need to surface
now!" Ash yelled. Misty & Jonathan didn't need Ash to tell them that. Ash had
some more time. Then he saw a Poliwhirl! He had been lugging the launcher, so he fired
it... and made his mark. Ash went out of the water (on the recoil), and splashed back in.
He saw the Poke Ball sink down. He made 1 last check at his air gauge. It said 1 minute
& a half. He grabbed the ball when it was on the sand, and swam to the surface with
about 15 seconds of air left. "Misty! Jonathan! Where are you!" he shouted, and
barely heard Misty's voice.
"Ash! Ash! Is that you?" she screamed.
"Yeah, that's me! I'm off to your starboard bow!" he shouted
back. When the boat finally came back, Ash asked, "What were you guys doing- leaving
me behind?"
"Of course not, Ash. We thought you were lost or something."
she said back, happiness in her voice.
"I caught Brock a Poliwhirl." holding that Poke Ball.
"A Poliwhirl? Are you kidding?" she said, surprised.
"I'm not kidding!" as he got on the boat, smiling, and
looking Misty in the eyes.
"Well, I'll see when we get back to the Sea Queen." she
replied, still not believing Ash. They relaxed, leaned against each other back to back,
tired from the long swim. When they got back to their room on the Sea Queen, Misty said:
"Brock, Ash claims he caught a Poliwhirl on today's dive. Here's the Poke Ball."
Brock opened the Poke Ball.
"Wow, Ash it is a Poliwhirl! Thanks." Brock said, s t i l l
seasick. Ash & Misty showered, then they took a nap because of the dive. Then they ate
another dinner, and went to bed.
