Chapter 26: Jigglypuff

"Ash," Misty responded weakly, "I think it's Jigglypuff's song."

"Then why am I not drifting under?"

"You're further away from it than I am." she explained, and her head tilted, meaning she was almost asleep.

Ash decided to finish Jigglypuff off one & for all. "All right, Jigglypuff, if you're in there, you can come on out!"

    "Jiggly? <What was that?>"

"There you are. Return, Charmander! Butterfree, I choose you! Poison Powder!" Butterfree let its brown spore out, Poison Powder. Jigglypuff began to dance crazily as if it was in pain. In reality, it w a s in pain. "Where's my empty Poké Ball?" Ash exclaimed.

Misty was still drowsy, but she heard Ash perfectly. "Ash, use this one." she said groggily.

"If I use that Poké Ball, it's yours! And besides, what would I do with a Jigglypuff anyway? Poké Ball, go!" Ash wasn't sure about this one- who would get Jigglypuff, Ash, or Misty? It hit, and Ash's Pokédex reacted. "Trainer code?" "Misty, what is your code?"

"Let me see." she punched it in. "Transfer to:" the Pokédex asked, and Misty punched in the code for Cerulean Gym. "That did it." Ash said, serious.

"No wait, Ash, now it's asking which Pokémon to transport." she noticed. Ash sprayed something in Misty's face. "Ash!"

    "It's only Awakening."

    "Never mind."

"Transfer <holds the r sound for a while, then when she's almost out of breath,> Goldeen.". A glow then shined from Misty's left pocket. A Poké Ball left. Ash heard his phone ring. "Hello?"

Daisy: "Hello, Ash? This is Daisy. I need to talk to Misty."

Ash: "Ok, sure. Hey, Misty. It's Daisy."

    Misty: "Hello?'

Daisy: "Misty, we got your Goldeen. I wanted to ask you, can I have it? We need another Pokémon for me."

Misty: "Well, okay, I do have that Seaking from that trip."

    Daisy: "Thanks, bye." <hangs up>

Misty: "Bye." <hangs up> "Here, Ash."

    "Thanks. Now, what's that?"

"It's Jigglypuff's song." Misty pressed the button on the Poké Ball to silence it. "Hey, Ash.". Then she thought, "He left the Awakening out! I'll use it on him!" <spray> Ash took a breath, and suddenly woke up. "Misty, that was Jigglypuff."

"I know. Moonlight's coming in through the roof. Do you wanna sleep in here tonight?"

"Might as well, it's no sense waking our Pokémon up." He got some blankets out of his pack & didn't bother with his tent. "Ash, it's freezing. Sleep together?" Misty asked, blushing a little.

"Fine. And besides, you're right." Misty put her blankets on top of Ash's. They got a pillow out for themselves, and got in. "Ready, Ash?" Misty asked, holding Jigglypuff's Poké Ball in her hand. Ash only nodded a yes. Misty pressed the button, and put the ball next to their heads so they could listen well. Misty kept blushing at him, and she sank under faster then Ash, but he joined her in dreamland.

Chapter 27: Escape

Ash was still sleeping in that Sandshrew cave. He slowly woke up, but was still groggy from the song. It was 9 in the morning. Jigglypuff was still singing, so he pressed the button on Misty's Poké Ball to quiet it. He sprayed his Awakening again in his face to liven up. He didn't know whether to wake Misty up or just let her wake up on her own.

Ash decided to wake her up. He gingerly sprayed the Awakening in her face, and she woke up on her next breath. "Ash?"

"Let's get out of here.". He took the blankets (that were his) & put them in his pack. Misty did the same thing, and then looked at what Ash was doing with curiosity. "Charmander, Pidgeot, I choose you two! Charmander, ride Pidgeot so you can find a way out of here." They did what Ash said, but neither of them knew why Charmander was there. Pidgeot carried Charmander up to the roof of the cave, and Misty noticed they were signaling. "Hey, Ash I think they found something."

"I think you're right. Remember where that place is!" Ash cried, "Fly back down here! <Pidgeot flies down with Charmander> Good work Charmander, return! Come on, Misty, we can get out of this place now!"

"Okay.". She got on. Ash was in front. They got out of there, and couldn't get out because of a net! A familiar voice chimed, "We got 'em now!"

Ash & Misty gasped, "It's Meowth!" Ash got over to where he could lay down flat on his face where the net didn't block him. "Come on, Misty! You don't want Pidgeot to tire out when you're on, do you?" he asked.

"No way.". Misty got down next to him with a determined look on her face. They heard the Team Rocket motto, and then got ready to deliberately fall back in to the cave. "How are we gonna do this, Ash? Just fall flat on our backs?"

"I don't what else to do. Come on."

"Okay." she had a worried look on her face. Ash just gave her a little tug with his hand, and they fell. Ash was going to try to land on his back to see Team Rocket if they came down. Misty tried to do the same thing, and twisted herself in mid air so that would happen. They felt the sand.

Chapter 28: Team Rocket's Demise

Neither of them blacked out because they were ready for the dulled shock of their bodies against the sand. They had each other's hand held, and they only watched the hole in the roof. Misty knew moving wouldn't do anything but hamper Ash's sight of the top, and she was paralyzed (from the legs down) if she wanted to stand up anyway. She only got a Paralyz Heal out of her backpack & gave it to herself. "Ash, are you paralyzed?" she asked seriously.

    "I don't think so. <checks> No."

"Good." Misty nodded & got down next to him to keep watching. "We can't just lie here, Misty, we have to do something before the Sandshrew get us again!"

"Try baking the ropes with Charmander's Flamethrower."

"Charmander, Flamethrower! <tries> It's no use- it doesn't have enough range! I know, Pidgeot! <pops out> Break the net with your Wing Attack! All right, it worked!"

Misty jumped in. "Let's battle Team Rocket. Put all your Pokémon with Pidgeot & let him fly up there to battle. Bulbasaur can pull us up with its Vine Whip!"

"No wait, all we need is your Jigglypuff to sing to them!"

"That's even better!" she exclaimed. "Here, Pidgeot.". Misty put the ball in Pidgeot's claw. Pidgeot flew up, and dropped the ball on the land near where Team Rocket thought Ash & Misty were blacked out down there. "Huh?" James exclaimed.

"What's this?" Meowth asked. Pidgeot tapped the Poké Ball, opening it, allowing the surprise Misty had for them be seen. "Did one of the twerps get Jigglypuff?" Jessie screamed. Then she heard the song...

Misty had an idea. Ash called Pidgeot back. "Ash, spray the Awakening between out faces, and move your head so you get the effect."

He nodded because he was feeling drowsy already. Misty got a mean look on her face & took the bottle out of his hand, and sprayed it. They took it in, and then just concentrated on holding their breath until Jigglypuff's song was over. Then Misty realized it wasn't working.

She exhaled, and sprayed in her face again. Ash nodded to her- he slipped under & Misty knew she had to stay awake. Jigglypuff's song finally ended, and she woke Ash up with the bottle. He smiled at her when he woke up. A gust blew Jigglypuff from the ground it was standing to the cave. Misty thought fast, and called it back in midair. She sighed in relief. "Pidgeot," Ash commanded, "get this Poké Ball back up there." He put Bulbasaur's ball in one of Pidgeot's talons. "You're gonna tell Bulbasaur to pull us up there with Vine Whip, right?" Misty asked, just knowing it'd be a yes.

"Yes.". Misty knew it. Ash heard the ball open. "Bulbasaur, use vine Whip to pull us up there!" Ash yelled. He saw the vines come down- it heard him! Misty grabbed a vine, and so did Ash. Ash called his Pidgeot back while they passed each other. Once they made it out, Ash called all of his Pokémon back, and they kept looking for Westwood's lab.

Chapter 29: Festivals & Fancifiing

Ash & Misty finally made in to Westwood's lab after riding Pidgeot again. "I'm glad that over with," Misty sobbed, "I'm sick of riding Pokémon!"

"Aww, come on Misty, we're at a festival!"

"Huh?". She looked up, and saw Ash 10 feet in front of her staring at her.

    "See?"

"Yeah!". Her face brightened. They started enjoying the festival, & they took in some of the views on a Ferris wheel. Just then, Misty had a question. "Ash, I know you're enjoying this, but what do you think this festival is for?"

"Got me. My guess is this is for Westwood's new Dex upgrade."

Misty had a strange look on her face. "You're probably right.", then she looked off the see the view. When they got off, they saw none other than Westwood himself. "Greetings, Ash, <pause & small bow> Misty."

"Can you upgrade my Pokédex? That's what we're here for."

"Sure. Follow me to my lab.". Westwood leading Ash & Misty created quite a stir in the busy carnival. After they finally brushed their way through the crowd, Ash walked in alone to the Pokédex upgrade room. "Misty, you have to stay in this room. Only Pokémon trainers-"

    "I a m Pokémon trainer!" Misty interupted.

"with Pokédexes can enter." he finished. Ash's emotions fell from happiness to sorrow from this. "I know how you feel, Ash. It seems like everyone who gets their Pokédex upgraded has a partner that doesn't have a Pokédex. I think the Pokémon League should make a rule that requires any trainer to have one."

"Aren't you doing anything to help that?"

"Well, here. Call Oak and see if he can give your friend a Pokédex." Ash did that, and he said yes i f he came back to Pallet with his upgraded Pokédex. He knew Misty could use one, but he requested that it only have detailed Water Pokémon entries. Oak said that was easy to do. Ash got his upgrade, and left the room. There were windows so Misty could see in, but she couldn't hear them. When Ash stepped out, he spoke to her. "Misty, how would you like a Pokédex with entries on o n l y Water Pokémon?"

Her face brightened considerably. Misty also clasped her hands together. "Would I ever!" she exclaimed happily, with tears of joy being fought back.

"We need to leave. Oak can give you one."

Chapter 30: The Pokédex

Ash & Misty had surfed on Misty's Lapras until they got ¾ of the north up Sea Route 21, where they started to ride Pidgeot to Oak's lab. "Ash, what are the new things you got in the upgrade, anyway?"

"Well, it has the voice of the orginal Pokédex, and 50 new Pokémon, up to number 201. I never liked the new voice of the 2nd upgrade. Did you?"

"I never liked it either." she wondered. Then she somehow rembered the battle of Ash vs. Blaine. The first time. What stuck out was when Ash scanned Magmar, and remembered the voice, but not the entry. She also remembered the time they faced a wild Gyarados- the one James had bought on the S.S. Anne. She didn't know how she remembered, she just did. They finally landed, and Ash called Pidgeot back. Ash & Misty saw a large, orange sunset, so they camped out on the beach that night. The next day, they finally made it to Pallet.

Oak let Ash & Misty into his lab. "Well, Ash, I expect your Pokédex is with you?"

"Here it is." Ash handed Oak his Pokédex. Oak put his Pokédex in a slot, then typed something into a computer. "Well," Oak said, "it's got the upgrade. Give this Pokédex to Misty." Oak handed him another Pokédex, but this Pokédex was blue instead of red. "Uh, Misty, I'd suprised about this Pokédex if I were you.". She had an odd look on her face.

"Let's see.". Misty reluctantly opened it, and it gave all the personalized things about it: name, and espicially town I'm from. "It's just like Ash's!" she brightened. "Misty, remember that's only for water Pokémon. <chuckle>" Ash needlessly pointed out.

"Oh yeah, I guess it's not exactly like Ash's." her face suddenly drooped & she blushed nervously. "Thanks, Ash. Now I can hand this out to Gary & other trainers.". Now Ash was blushing. Oak whisped something into Ash's right ear: "Remember to tell Misty that that Pokédex doubles as her I.D."

    "I will." Ash responded.

Ash & Misty walked out of the lab, and decided to rest up in Ash's house for a day. "Hey, Ash," Misty wondered, "what was Oak whispering to you in his lab anyway?"

"He just wanted me to tell you that that your Pokédex is also your I.D.". They made it to Ash's house, got some dinner, & slept. Misty couldn't sleep. It was just like the time she had gotten the Cascade Badge from Cerulean.
