Part One

"There you are!" a voice shouted. Jessie turned round. A man stood at the end of the alley. If one wondered what she was doing there, her and James were visiting Meowth.
"You’ll pay for what you did to those pokémon!" A wave of fear filled her. They had never harmed a pokémon more than any other trainer. The great death of Giovanni was long gone, and people still hated them. It was no surprise, but they hadn’t recieved actual violent threats since goodness knows when.
"We’ve followed you. Hunted you down. Now you’ll pay for your crime." Why? When the truth had come out, some, some had been excused. After all, what with Giovanni’s blackmail, they had no choice. Once one had joined, they were stuck. It was a desperate measure for one to join, and they couldn’t leave. That brought Jessie back to now. She couldn’t run or hide, there was a dead end. So she wished, and faced the man. He was tall, and had his fists clenched. She couldn’t see his face in the dark.
Jessie walked foward, not knowing what to do or what he’d do. All he did at first was glare, so she glared back. The first punch knocked her back against the wall. She lay there, as if uncaring, but she still glared. Her hand went to her pokéballs. Good. Arbok. He’d h... her train of thought broke off as pain shot through her. She inched backwards, then darted fowards and struggled up. She was nearly pushed backwards to the ground again, but her arm prevented her fall. She could vaugely see a shape, James! He was late, maybe that was good. She silently wished him away, but it wouldn’t happen.

James quickly summed up the situation, unnoticed yet by her attacker. As Jessie fumbled for Arbok, Wheezing came out and let out a billow of smog, and the man could no longer see anybody. Trouble was neither could she. Jessie crawled along the ground, and when she felt she was clear of anybody she let out Arbok. He could probably sense the man better than any human, and was familiar enough with James to not attack him instead. Somebody tripped over her leg, she scrambled up.
"Jessie?" she let out a sigh and relief andmoved back towards James.
"What’s happening?" She didn’t reply just bit her lip and looked up. The smog was clearing away. She could make out a figure now, heading towards them. She inched backwards, preparing to run fowards. But she couldn’t, she just collapsed.
"Return Arbok," she muttered, and stuffed the pokéball away. Strange, there was no more pain yet. Then she heard a muffled shout. A hand grabbed her, and pulled her away and out. Then, dragged back down. She wished, and wished no more.

She awoke with the scream that would have been uttered that night before. She clutched the blankets around her.
"Awake again are we?" Jessie could barely recognise the voice. She smiled weakly,
"What happened?"
"You were found last night. Now, tell me, whatever did you do to get in such a state?" Jessie’s eyes wandered off leaving the nurse without an answer. Then a thought struck her,
"James." The nurse blinked, before mouthing ‘oh’. She left in a hurry all of a sudden.

It wasn’t everyday James got between up, at least now. He could remember a time when he was electrocuted, fried, drowned, concreted or any other just as horrible thing at least twice weakly. He felt concreted now. He couldn’t move of speak, he was stuck as glue. Suddenly, he thought, Jessie. He didn’t know whether she was okay! She’d slumped down, and then, James hated recalling what happened. He didn’t have time to think about himself, Jessie was... Oh wait. He had plenty of time to think. Seeing he couldn’t move and all, and he thought he’d be in hospital for a long time. But, where was Jessie?

"Where is he?!" Jessie demanded. Despite not being in Team Rocket for years, 7, she still had the ability to make people nervous.
"Well, ah, I’m afraid he’s," Jessie could hear the answer clear as day, "In a coma." She blinked. But, so a coma is just as bad, that the nurses used the same voice as when one had died.
"We don’t know when he’ll wake up, if he..."
"I didn’t ask how he was. I asked where." The nurse didn’t answer, and wasn’t prepared to. She couldn’t have Jessie go wander off now could she?

Talking. He couldn’t hear, or see, but they were talking. His body was just, limp. He couldn’t move it. James wanted to demand he see Jessie, they say she was okay, but he couldn’t. A mind trapped a dead body. Great. Just what he needed. Thing was, he wasn’t used to actually fighting, normally he was just blasted off end of story. Talking now, someone in a coma? He didn’t know how he knew maybe, oh damn. Jessie wasn’t in a coma, he was. Just what he needed, James thought, a coma. He wanted to scream, he wanted to shout. But he couldn’t. So he resigned himself, and slept.

"I want to see him."
"Well you can’t, Jessica."
"Jessie! I’m Jessie you twerp!" The nurse blinked, surprised.
"How come those stupid people who call themselves his parents get to see him and," Jessie was becoming hysterical,
"I DON"T!" The nurse didn’t reply. Until Jessie pulled out a mallet and was going to thump the nurse soundly into a coma herself,
"All right! You can see him. But not now."
"When." Jessie wasn’t going to accept what the nurse had just said.
"When you’re better." And with that, she left the room. Jessie seethed inwardly, and got up from the bed. She hated to stupid hospital clothes, she look horrendous! But never mind. Jessie pulled out a belt from her infinite collection of knick-knacks and head to the reception.

"He’s in Room 3, Ward 12, but..." Jessie smiled sweetly and left. That stupid receptionest had served her purpose, and Jessie had no need to listen further. Avoid anyone who recognised her, that’s basically it. Room 3, Ward 12. Easy enough to find. She turned her thoughts back to the nurse, who obviously didn’t know Jessie. Jessie who could survive a million electricutions! Elecricution, executions? Giovanni was executed. They found him out. After he’d fired them both. And then sent his assassins after them. Unfortunately, the assassins still came after them, and they had to stop very quickly so that they weren’t half-dead when they next caught up. They were like cats, her and James, with a million lives. So how could he be in a coma? She bit back the tears that were fighting to get out, she couldn’t, not now. He wasn’t dead. Near it though, a little voice prompted. Jessie whacked it over the head with a mallet. Ow, she winced. She should remember that it was in her head, so she couldn’t whack it over the head. Pity. She needed to whack something over the head.

"James?" this was it, Room 3, Ward 12. She gulped and steped in. Nobody was there. Strange. There, there was a curtain.
"James?" No answer. She opened it up, and collapsed in the chair beside the bead with a heart-wrenching cry. He couldn’t, James could just not wake up! He couldn’t! She needed him! Even though nobody would think of it. They didn’t know, she’d known him, been with him all her life! He couldn’t, couldn’t... James wouldn’t.

A person. He couldn’t tell who, at first. Crying. Jessie, crying? Don’t cry Jessie. He wanted to say. I’m okay. Everything’ll be okay. He wished. But he had no intention of staying like this! Not with Jessie still alright. He had to be there, make sure she didn’t do something stupid. Nobody but him and maybe Meowth knew she wasn’t what she seemed. There was more to her than that. She needed him, he needed her. Wake up you damned stupid body! He screamed. Wake up! Jessie, I can’t be like this, I need to be with her! Can’t, need, why?! Why, why, why!?

Part Two

Far from the happenings in the hospital, deep in the Unknown Dungeon, lived Mew and her son, Mewtwo. Mew had woken up that morning with the feeling something was different. It couldn’t place what it was, so it went through with reciting the Prophecy as usual. Suddenly, there was a flash. A dream, a message. Alida? The creature questioned. No answer, save for an impeding thundering. Mew came back to Earth in a flash, and knew what was wrong.
Mother? It was Mewtwo. Alida the single word sent a wave of terror through Mewtwo. Who? he questioned. Powers are in Moonrock City, and Dawn City. Be quick. And suddenly, a song echoed through the caverns, through the Unknown Dungeon, and out. No humans heard, only the pokémon knew. They did not panic, as one might have expected. They remained calm, each knowing their part in protecting the Earth. And the humans remained unaware. Except for four.

*****

"Huh, Pikachu?" And then he could feel it. The voice, the song. Drowning, overcoming. Then a figure appeared before Ash, Misty and Pikachu. If Brock was there he didn’t notice, and was ignored. Mewtwo extended a hand towards them. They shivered in remembering, and nodded. Then they were gone.

*****

"What do you mean they’re gone?" the nurse shivered slightly,
"They’re just, gone. Jessica, James, they’re gone. The lists, they’re listed as not here, but, they can’t have just disappeared!"
"Of couse they couldn’t have you ignorant excuse for a human! A man in a coma doesn’t just get up and walk away! Find them!" The nurse shivered again,
"Yes, sir."

*****

"Why did you call us here?" Misty questioned. You are needed. The Earth is in peril. Only you can save it. Alida is returning. Suddenly, Mewtwo and three figures materialized. I have got them. But there is a problem. Everyone was aware of that. Jessie was a total reck, James was, ah, not responding. The graceful creature known as Mew moved foward. A voice spoke only the speaker an Mewtwo could hear.
Heal what is wrong. An aura glowed around James.
Make the broken join. A light spread through the room, blinding everyone in the cavern with its glowing pink.
Be full. A flash lit up the whole dungeon, like an explosion, but all was intact.
"Jessie?" The slumped figure lifted her head. The noise stilled and the people and pokémon gathered looked upon the happy pair. Jessie had embraced James so tightly, it was like she would never going to let go. When she finally did, she spoke,
"You are not going to ever do that to me again, you hear?" James nodded, and they hugged again.

Mew turned towards Mewtwo, Where is the other pokémon? Mewtwo smiled, and pointed to an unimpressed Meowth standing next to Jessie and James.
"Dat’s enough of all dat mushy stuff. Let’s get ta wowk."
"Well, Mew?" Mew gave the impression of smiling, and spoke. You may know the Prophecy. I will tell you anyway. When the pokémon first came to Earth, they had left their planet which unexplainedly had, exploded. From the center of the planet came the first Mew. He followed the pokémon to their new home. But he wasn’t the only thing that emerged from once living planet, which was unlike Earth, sentient. But it’s mind was pored into the first Mew. No one but the Mew’s in each sucsession, and now Mewtwo, know whyMew came. In the center of the planet had been an egg. It waited many millenia to hatch. When it finally did, strange happenings occured to the planet, known to the pokémon as Moon Stone. It couldn’t hold it. But when the mew hatched, the planet’s essence went into the creature, and the Mew warned the pokémon of the events, and they left.
From the planet’s scarred remains, formed a new creature, with power equal to Mew’s. The planet’s pieces molded into one living creature. One living creature with no mind, no essence, an empty body for evil. We call it Alida, for to speak its real name is to die. It waited. It waited. And it was a further few millenia until it was ready. It is ready. It will come to destroy Earth and all living creatures on it, and spread its rampage on the universe. We must destroy it. But we need a weapon.
Mew stopped, and looked around at the scared creatures, human and pokémon, who did not know the prophecy.
But we have a weapon, so to speak. There is a prophecy, the Prophecy of Time. I will tell it for you.
When Alida returns
Earth will drown
Burning in flames
Only the Sacred can quench
The evil will come
As all evils must
The danger known
All good must trust
Hearts tried and true
Standing great pains
The four will join
And the two
Goddess must call
Son recognise
The powers must be true
Or Earth will surely die

Misty was the first to speak,
"So, you, Mew, are the Godess. Mewtwo is the son. The four, are me, Ash, Jessie and James, and the two, Pikachu and Meowth?" She couldn’t believe it, even herself, but Mew nodded, Basically. What is means is, the two, those are the pairs, Misty and Ash, Jessie and James, and Meowth and Pikachu. The four are the humans. Why you? You may ask. You were born to it. Whether you forfill it or not is the difference between success and tradgedy. We have so much to teach you, so little time. A week, at the most. When Alida comes, you will be ready, we hope. And if the powers in you are true, we are safe. Or not entirely. But having a chance of surviving is better than no chance. Come. We must begin.

Part Three

It can’t be Mew spoke suddenly. Everybody looked up. It’s here. All went silent, still, almost ghostly white. Alida knew where they were. It’d come stright to them. Suddenly, in the bright daylight, a dark cloud threatened. It was so dark, even Mew wouldn’t see very well. Pikachu tried to make little lights with his electric power, but they were so small the darkness quickly swallowed them up, and the pokémon quickly jumped onto Ash’s head. He quickly put a hand up to comfort Pikachu. So small and insignificant, Jessie thought.
Suddenly, they could feel a shout. And some force, pushing them away. Outwards. James clutched onto Jessie like a young child, but she didn't bang him over the head with her mallet as she would’ve done in any other circumstance. It was amazing he could actually find her, touch was the only way of knowing where anyone was. All of a sudden, two ominous eyes glared down at them. Meowth was pushed away like a leaf in the wind, not that anybody saw. They only saw the eyes. Paralyzing them, taking them over. The battle would be over before it begun.
At that moment, Ash shook himself, and Pikachu jumped off to his side. He ran foward, so tiny the creature didn’t notice. Even when he slammed his body into the creature’s foot, it ignored him. Pikachu, becoming angry, let out a Thunder that momentarily lighted the dark. The creature moved his eyes down, towards the rodent. Misty saw what happened and ran towards them, slamming head first into the leg, even going so far as to bite down.

Jessie, however, was much more graceful. She didn’t move, rather, she used some of the techniques they’d learnt in the three days they’d been with Mew. James couldn’t have moved if he wanted to, and it was obvious he just wanted to fade away. Meowth, however, ran straight in, claws and all. Jessie suddenly couldn’t bear it. She was furious that that, that, thing, could just barge onto their planet and destroy anything. And it wasn’t just that. She was angry, very angry, and suddenly the powers that had come to her blasted out in an angry, swirling rage. But, but, the creature did nothing. Just moved its eyes. Suddenly she felt very, very weak, and collapsed to the ground.

It was laughing at them! James thought all of a sudden. It ignored angry attacks. Dumb as James may have seemed, he thought out a plan. He didn’t gather his anger. He took his love for Jessie, for his friends. His thanks to Mew and Mewtwo for healing him. How happy he was at Giovanni’s death. He gathered all this, and sent it towards the creature. And it blinked. Winced. And James was happy to see it hurt, even a bit. He sent that. Every bit of happiness, he sent it to the creature.
He glanced towards the glowing auras that were Mew and Mewtwo. A line of that power would streak up towards the creature. Distracted, the creature locked eyes onto him. And he blacked out.

Anger didn’t work. Because she had plenty of that. Jessie had already woken to find James as if dead. Her anger flared up, and the creature ignored it. It even seemed to like it. Like it, hate it... and she found what James had figured out. She ran wildly towards where she thought the others were.
"We’re doing it wrong! It thrives on what we wouldn’t. We thrive on love, it doesn’t." Her voice was swallowed, but they seemed to hear it. Suddenly more lights flared up, with new strength. It was almost as bright as before the creature came, except with purple tint. And they were happy, happy the creature was hurting. And they sent it, it became an inferno blazing and slowly burning the creature. And then, the dark fell. There was no time to scream.

*****

"Ash?" Misty could hear a low whimper.
"Piiii, pika piiii" Pikachu cried. Crushing, hurting. Misty was exhausted, but you can relax when you’re being crushed by a thing made from the remains of a planet. Misty was surprised she was still alive. But she couldn’t breathe. She needed a way out. So quickly, she fashioned her power into a long, with a sharp tip. A spear of power. It spiraled up, up and out. But Misty had already been knocked out when it was at the top.

Pain. He couldn’t breathe. Had to get air. But he couldn’t move. So he imagined. A ball of fire, a ball of power, deep in the middle of the creature. It grew, eat away, extending itself out from the center. Eating, burning. But soon enough, he too was knocked out.

"Pika-CHU!" No success. If he’d been able to breathe, Pikachu would’ve been panting. As it was, he was thunder-shocking himself, the electricity couldn’t spread in the air, it just buzzed around him. What about a spiral of electricity, that went up and up, burrowing through anything. Was it possible? Pikachu couldn’t tell, but he tried. Halfway through, he was knocked out.

With no mind to direct the power, the electricity just whizzed through the creature, wildly. It filled the creature, and it ran into the ball of fire, ball of power, eatng away at the creature. And exploded.

"James!" Jessie tried to shout. But her mouth wouldn’t move, she couldn’t move even a millimetre. She was sick of the power that burned inside her, sick of the anger. It needed to go. And it went.

Mew watched the explosions, and turned away. Mother? Mewtwo spoke. They had both teleported away, but the humans and pokémon could do no such thing. She did not reply to Mewtwo, just called for the life under the rapidly burning remains of Alida. Jessie burnt brightest of all, the pokémon were there well enough. Misty and Ash, they were alright, but they needed to get out. But James was bad. There was only a hint to show the spirit was still attached to the body. Carefully, Mew told Mewtwo to help her get them away. Mewtwo nodded, and took them from underneath, and placed them above the dungeons. Then they flew down.

Jessie had already scrambled over to James. She was crying, madly crying and out of control. Mew couldn’t bear to leave her like that. She needed James. Mew knew without him she’d just, forget her will to live. She’d want to die. Mew couldn’t have that happen to her. She thought of them as her children, and she had to do something.
Catch the spirit leaving. Make the binds so strong. Pull him back. Make him whole. When Mew had finshed the healing, she knew he wouldn’t recover immediately. And she was weak, too weak.
Mother! Mewtwo cried out. He held her, keeping her alive, but only just. She needed to rest. But he was afraid she’d be gone to soon. Focusing on her, he forgot about everybody else.

Why? Why us? People hate us, we have to save the planet, it isn’t fair. It isn’t right. And after this, no one will know what we did. What is the point? There are a million reasons to end my suffering wrong, and, and
"Not one reason to live." And Jessie let herself fall.
"No!" James had heard her, he knew what she was going to do. He ran foward, and grabbed. But she was gone. Her eyes were wide open in terror. No, please no, this can’t happen! He collected his power that remained, cushioned it under Jessie. And she stopped falling. He brought her up, brought her back. And they were safe together.

Epilougue

So everything was finally right. But there was still Mew, struggling for a hold on life, only still there because of Mewtwo’s determination. Your power, Mewtwo suddenly spoke, You still have some. Please, the remaining power. Give it to...
They’d never seen Mewtwo cry before. Ash laid a hand on his shoulder, and formed a ball with the leftover power, and sent it to Mew. One by one they sent it to Mew. And she woke.
