In the inky blackness of the night Jessie could not sleep. She crept
from her sleeping bag and sat by the glowing embers of the fire.
Thoughts flitted through her mind. She loved James, couldn't he see
that? She wouldn't admit it to him because she knew that he didn't feel
the same way about her. So she would have to keep on treating him the
way she always did, acting like she didn't care at all.
"Hey Jessie, why aren't you asleep?" came a voice. She spun around.
There he was, sitting up in his sleeping bag, his hair all messed up.
"I, uh
had a bad dream!" she fibbed. "And I couldn't get back to
sleep!"
she finished.
"Oh," he said. "Well, why don't you try counting Snorlax? It always
works for me."
"Keep your ideas to yourself, dimwit!" she snapped.
"Well, fine, I was only trying to help," he said in a hurt-sounding
voice. "I'm going back to sleep now. 'Night."
James pretended to snore as he heard her creep back into her sleeping
bag. Why was she always so cruel to him? She couldn't possibly love him
the way he loved her. She always had to insult him or whack him over the
head. He decided that he'd had enough of her treating him badly. He was
going to run away. She wouldn't even care, she'd get a new partner soon
enough. And if the Boss sent someone out to kill him
well, he didn't
care. What was there to live for anyway? Her. There was her. But she
didn't care for him, so what was the use?
In the morning she woke up to find him gone.
"Huh? Where is he?" she wondered. She shook Meowth awake. "James is
gone!"
"Huh? What? Why're you shoutin' in my ear?" complained Meowth.
"James is gone!" she repeated.
"Maybe he runned away," Meowth suggested.
"But why would he do that?" asked Jessie.
"Did ya upset him or somethin'? Maybe he had enough of ya."
"Would you shut up!" snapped Jessie.
"Well, we could look for him."
They walked through the forest calling his name. But they couldn't find
him.
Meanwhile, James was walking by himself in another part of the forest.
"I'm finally free," he thought to himself. "I don't have to listen to
her anymore."
"Hey, there you are!" a voice called. He turned around. It was Jessie
and Meowth.
"Leave me alone!" snapped James.
"Why'd you run away?" Jessie asked him.
"Well, you obviously didn't want me around."
"That's not true."
"Yes, I think it is. Goodbye!" He took off running.
"James, wait! Come back!" Jessie shouted. She and Meowth raced after
him. They came to a cliff. James didn't notice it.
"Aaah!" he yelled as he fell off the edge.
"James!" shouted Jessie. She and Meowth raced to the edge of the cliff.
"Where is he?" she wondered.
"Over dere," Meowth said, pointing. James was clinging to a rock several
metres down the cliff face.
"Grab my hand," she said, extending her hand.
"I can't! I'm afraid to let go! I want my mummy!" he wailed.
"Oh stop whinging, cry-baby!" snapped Jessie. "Now how am I going to get
him up?"
"Use your pokémon," suggested Meowth.
"Likitung, go!" shouted Jessie throwing her pokéball. "Likitung, use
your tounge to grab James around the waist!"
"Liki!" said Likitung. It unrolled its tongue and stretched it out,
grabbing James.
"Jessie, I don't want to die!" cried James.
"You won't James. Likitung, bring James back here."
"Tung!" said Likitung rolling its tongue back up. Just as James was
about to reach its mouth it, dropped him.
"Jessie!" cried James, throwing his arms around her. "I'm alive, I'm
alive, I'm alive! I thought I wanted to die, but now I'm glad I didn't!"
"Why did you want to die, James?" asked Jessie.
"Because I thought you didn't care about me, Jessie," he replied. "But
now I know you do, because you saved my life."
"Well, Likitung here did most of da work," said Meowth.
"Yes," said James. "But it was Jessie's Likitung."
"Liki-tung!"
"Thank you Jessie! I love you!" said James.
"WHAT did you say?" asked Jessie.
"Er
I said 'th-thank you Jessie'," stammered James.
"You said you love me!" said Jessie.
"Yeah I heard ya," added Meowth.
"Alright, alright, I did say it! I do love you, Jessie!" burst out
James. "Do you love me too?" he asked hopefully.
"Of course I do, idiot!" yelled Jessie.
"Yeah, yeah, cut da talkin, just kiss!" said Meowth.
So they did.
