A Day in the Life of Togepi
By Juliet Irvine
Pokémon is copyright Nintendo and that. Not us.
It was morning. Mommy was asleep when I woke up.
"Prii! Togi, togi-prii!" I squealed. She slowly opened her eyes.
"Morning Togepi," she said.
"Togi, togi!" I said to her. Then I walked over to Pikachu who was
asleep next to Daddy.
"Togi, togi-prii!" I said loudly.
"Chaa!" yawned Pikachu as it woke up. "Pika, pika, pi, pi, pi," it
said
to me.
Daddy opened his eyes. "Morning Pikachu and Togepi," he said to us.
"Morning Misty," he said to Mommy.
"Morning Ash. Is Brock awake yet?"
"I dunno. Looks like his eyes are closed, but they always look like
that, ha, ha, ha!" laughed Daddy.
"I AM awake, Ash!" said Uncle Brock angrily.
"Sorry Brock!" said Daddy. "Um, what's for breakfast?"
"I thought we might have scrambled eggs," said Uncle Brock.
"Togi?" I said. I started crying. "Prii-ii-ii, Prii-ii-ii!"
"BROCK! You shouldn't say that sort of thing in front of Togepi!" yelled
Mommy. She picked me up and gave me a hug. "There, there, it's OK,
little Togepi."
"Sorry Togepi," said Uncle Brock. "We'll have pancakes for breakfast,
OK?"
I like pancakes. "Togi, togi, togi!" I said happily.
"Mmm, that was great, Brock!" said Daddy as we finished off breakfast.
"Pika, pikachu!" said Pikachu.
"Thanks Ash," said Uncle Brock. "I do happen to be a very good cook!"
I noticed Mommy staring at Daddy. Mommy likes Daddy a lot, I think. Not
more than me, I hope.
"What are you staring at me for, Misty?" asked Daddy.
"I wasn't staring at you, Ash, I was just looking at Pikachu!" said
Mommy.
"What for?" asked Daddy.
"I, uh, was just thinking about how cute Pikachu is!" replied Mommy.
"Yeah, it sure is," Daddy said proudly. "Nearly as cute as ME!"
"You are NOT as cute as Pikachu, Ash!" said Mommy.
"Waaa!" said Daddy, and fell over. "I am too!" he said, getting up.
"And
I'm much cuter than you too!"
"You are NOT!" Mommy yelled. "I'm much, much cuter than YOU, Ash
Ketchum!"
"You are not!" Daddy yelled back. "Your hair is carrot coloured!"
Mommy angrily whacked Daddy over the head with her mallet. "I'd rather
have carrot coloured hair than dirty cheeks like you!" she yelled.
"Hey guys, break it up!" said Uncle Brock.
"Fine," Mommy said sulkily. "But I'm still cuter!"
She picked me up and stomped off, tears running down her cheeks. "Why
does he have to be such a jerk, Togepi?" she sobbed. "Can't he get it -
I like him!"
"Prii, togi-prii!" I said. It's nice that Mommy likes Daddy and
everything, but I don't really want them to get together, because then
Mommy might not have enough time for me.
We went to a café for lunch.
"The food is great here!" said Daddy with his mouth full.
"Don't talk with your moth full, Ash!" scolded Mommy. "That's
DISGUSTING!"
Daddy scowled. "I didn't ask for YOUR advice, Misty!"
"Togi, togi!" I said, walking over to the edge of the table.
"Pi, pi, pi!" Pikachu said anxiously, rushing over to me and making sure
I didn't fall. Pikachu is very annoying sometimes. Too overprotective.
So is Mommy. She's far too strict on me. She won't let me do some things
because she thinks I'm 'too little'. I often have to cry to get my way.
"Are you guys all finished?" asked a waitress.
"We sure are, Miss," Uncle Brock said, blushing. "Would you be
interested in going out with me sometime?"
The waitress laughed. "Uh, no, I don't think so," she said, gathering up
the plates. "You're a little too young for me!"
"Rejected again!" groaned Uncle Brock. He likes girls a lot. Not Mommy,
though. I don't understand that, because she's twice as beautiful as the
girls Uncle Brock likes. I guess she's too young for him. Too good for
him, too. And much too good for Daddy.
Uncle Brock studied his map. "Hmm, we can either walk through this
forest here, or we can go through a few towns."
"I say we go through the forest," said Mommy. "We might see some cute
pokémon!"
"Togi?" I said anxiously.
"Although probably none as cute as you, Togepi," Mommy added hastily.
"Prii, togi-prii!" I said happily.
In the evening we ate dinner in the forest.
"It's cold!" Mommy said, shivering. Daddy, as usual, was busy stuffing
his face with food.
"I'll go get some wood to make a fire with," said Uncle Brock. After he
had gone, Mommy started staring at Daddy again.
"You're staring at me again, Misty!" said Daddy.
"I wasn't-," began Mommy.
"Don't try to tell me you were staring at Pikachu again," interrupted
Daddy. "Because this time you were looking right into my eyes."
"Ash, I-," she began.
"Shh," said Daddy. He began leaning towards Mommy. She leaned towards
him too. Just as their lips were about to touch, I jumped between them.
"Togi, togi, togi, togi-prii!" I exclaimed. Mommy leapt to her feet.
"How could you try and kiss me, Ash Ketchum!" she shouted.
"You wanted me to!" Daddy shouted back.
Just then, Uncle Brock came back with the firewood, and they both fell
silent.
Late that night, everyone was asleep except Mommy and me. Mommy started
to cry.
"Oh, Togepi," she sobbed. "Why am I always so mean to Ash? I really want
us to be together!"
"Prii," I said, pretending to be sympathetic. But I wasn't really. As
Mommy's sobs increased, I smiled to myself. Mommy and Daddy wouldn't be
together, I'd make sure of that.
