The Unusual Life of Ash Ketchum
By Juliet Irvine
Chapter 1 - Mom finds out
Ash and his friends were staying in Pallet Town with Ash's mom. The
first night they stayed there, Ash was the last to go to bed. He sat at
the table talking to his mom.
"I hope Misty and Brock don't have any trouble sleeping," said Ash. His
mother smiled.
"I think someone has a little crush on Misty," she remarked.
"Really? Who?" asked Ash.
"You, honey," replied Ash's mom.
"Oh, that's right. I mean, WAAA! I do not!" exclaimed Ash, falling off
his chair.
"Yes you do, honey," said his mom. "I know you do."
"Brock told you!" exclaimed Ash. "That BROCK, he can't even keep a
secret!"
"Ash, I didn't find out from Brock," his mom said.
"Really? Then how'd you find out?" Ash asked.
"You said so in your diary," she said.
"How'd you know that?" he asked.
"I read your diary, honey," said his mom.
"WAAA!" said Ash, falling off his chair again. "When did you read my
diary, Mom?"
"Oh, when you were all out visiting Professor Oak, I was unpacking your
backpack for you, and I noticed that old diary I'd given you when you
first began your pokémon journey. So I had a read of it. I hope you
don't mind, honey."
"Of course I don't mind, mom," said Ash. "It's just that, about
Misty-,"
"Oh honey, you can tell me!" interrupted his mom. "I know all about what
it's like to be your age. You like Misty, don't you?"
"Of course I like Misty, she's my friend," said Ash.
"You know what I mean, honey. Actually you said you love her. Is that
true?"
"Well, um, uh
" stuttered Ash, putting his hand behind his head like he
did when he was embarrassed, and blushing a bright red. "I um, ah, guess
so."
"Oh honey, I'm so happy for you!" squealed Mrs Ketchum.
"Calm down Mom, Misty doesn't even know," said Ash. "And I don't think
she really likes me that way."
"Of course she does, honey. Why do you think she's still following you?"
"Because she wants a new bike," said Ash stupidly.
"Oh Ash, I bet she doesn't even care about her bike anymore." Mrs
Ketchum said. "Would you like me to talk about this to her?"
"No, no, no!" said Ash, waving his hands frantically. "I'm going to bed,
OK Mom?"
"OK, goodnight honey," his mom said, hugging him.
"Goodnight mom." Ash went into his bedroom. Misty was sleeping on his
top bunk, and Brock was in his sleeping bag on the floor. Pikachu was
asleep in Ash's bed. Ash got into bed, moving Pikachu aside. He wondered
if his mom was right. Did Misty even care about her bike anymore?
Chapter 2 - A talk with Misty
The next day everyone was so tired they slept until lunchtime. After
lunch, Ash turned on the TV.
"Oh, look!" exclaimed Brock. "It's my favourite movie 'I saw what you
ate last Tuesday'. Let's watch it Ash."
"Boys," grumbled Misty as she wandered into the kitchen.
"Oh Misty!" said Mrs Ketchum. "I wanted to have a talk with you."
"You
you did?" said Misty, sweatdropping. Mrs Ketchum laughed.
"Oh, don't look so worried, honey!" she said. "Come and we'll discuss it
in Ash's room." Misty followed Mrs Ketchum into Ash's room. She wondered
what Mrs Ketchum wanted to talk to her about. They sat down on Ash's
bed.
"Misty, do you have a diary, honey?" asked Ash's mom.
"Uh
yes I do, Mrs Ketchum," replied Misty nervously.
"What do you write in it?"
"Oh, just stuff about pokémon," said Misty.
"Oh, that sounds very exciting!" exclaimed Mrs Ketchum, clasping her
hands together.
"I
guess so," said Misty.
"Do you write anything about my Ash?" asked his mother.
"Um, uh, sometimes," Misty said sweatdropping again.
"Do you LIKE my Ash?" Mrs Ketchum asked.
"Of course I like Ash. He's my friend," said Misty, puzzled. Mrs Ketchum
laughed.
"Oh Misty, what I meant was, do you have a little crush on my Ash?"
"NO!" Misty exclaimed. "I do NOT have a crush on Ash!"
"I don't believe you Misty," Ash's mom said.
"Well I was telling the truth," said Misty. She stood up.
"I think I'll go watch the movie with the boys now, if you don't mind."
"Of course not, honey," said Mrs Ketchum. "I didn't know you were a fan
of Cleven Spielberg's movies."
"My Psyduck was in one of his movies remember?" said Misty.
"Oh that's right. Silly me, how could I forget?" said Mrs Ketchum.
"Remember, you can always talk to me about boys, Misty."
"I'll remember," said Misty, walking out the door.
Chapter 3 - Rice balls for dinner
That evening Professor Oak and Gary came over for dinner.
"Hey Ashy boy," said Gary. "I bet I've still got more pokémon than you
have." Ash clenched his fists.
"So what if you have, Gary. My pokémon are just as good as your
pokémon!"
"Dinner's ready, everyone!" called Mrs Ketchum from the kitchen. They
all went into the kitchen.
"What's for dinner, mom?" asked Ash, sitting down at the table.
"Brock and I have made rice balls, honey," she said, placing a dish on
the table.
"Alright!" said Ash, reaching for the dish.
"Uh-uh, Ash," said his mom. "We have to serve our guests first." She
offered the dish to Professor Oak.
"Thanks Mrs Ketchum," he said, serving up several rice balls. He passed
the dish to Gary.
"You have no tables manners Ash," Gary said, smirking as he served out a
large helping.
"I've got more table manners than you!" Ash snapped. "You've got your
elbows on the table!"
"So?" said Gary, quickly pulling his elbows away from the table. "Even
Mr Mime eats more neatly than you do!"
"Mr Mime," said Mr Mime, neatly eating a forkful of pokémon chow.
"That's my Mimie!" said Mrs Ketchum. Ash gritted his teeth.
"Look Gary, if you're gonna insult me like that"
"Oh, you boys are pathetic!" said Misty said, shaking her head in
disgust. "Can't you just quit fighting and eat?"
"I DON'T HAVE ANY RICE BALLS YET!" yelled Ash, lunging across the table
towards the rice balls. Misty stopped him with her hand.
"Ash! You have to ask for them first!" she scolded.
"That's right honey. Remember your table manners," added his mom.
"What table manners?" Gary remarked snidely. Ash sunk back down into his
seat.
"Gimme the rice balls Misty," he said sulkily.
"Ooh, now that's polite Ashy boy!" jeered Gary.
"Ask nicely, Ash honey," said Ash's mom.
"Please pass the rice balls Misty," Ash said.
"Certainly. Here you go," said Misty, passing over the dish of rice
balls.
"See Ash, you need to learn how to behave at the table like Misty," Mrs
Ketchum said admiringly.
"That's right. Grow up, Ash," Gary said.
"Look Gary-,"Ash began.
"No fighting at the table, honey," his mom said. Ash grumpily started to
eat his rice balls. Why did Gary have to be such a jerk?
"Mmm, you and Brock did a good job on these rice balls," remarked
Professor Oak.
"Thanks Professor Oak," said Brock. "But Mrs Ketchum did most of the
work really."
"Ooh, stop! You're embarrassing me!" said Mrs Ketchum, blushing.
"Chaa!" said Pikachu, hugging the ketchup bottle.
"Ash," said Professor Oak. "I was wondering if you and your friends
would mind running an errand for me tomorrow,"
"Sure Professor Oak. What is it?" asked Ash.
"Well I need you to go to Viridian City, buy some potion and bring it
back to my lab," replied Professor Oak. "Here's the money you'll need,"
he said, handing over a few money notes.
"No problem!" said Ash, taking the money. "We'll be on our way tomorrow
morning!"
Chapter 4 - On the road to Viridian City
Early the next morning Pikachu woke Ash by thundershocking him.
"Pi-ka-CHUU!"
"WAAA! KNOCK IT OFF PIKACHU!" yelled Ash as he woke up.
"Chu," said Pikachu with its ears drooping.
"Why'd you wake me up anyway, Pikachu?" grumbled Ash. Suddenly he
remembered. "That's right - we're going to Viridian City!" He jumped out
of bed. Misty, Brock and Togepi awoke, yawning.
Mrs Ketchum had made pancakes for breakfast.
"Alright! Pancakes!" said Ash, reaching for the plate of pancakes.
"Ash! Guests first!" said Misty. Grumpily, Ash waited for Misty and
Brock to serve up pancakes.
"Togi, togi, togi!" said Togepi, toddling towards the edge of the table.
"Are you kids ready to go to Viridian City?" asked Mrs Ketchum.
"We sure are, Mom!" said Ash, serving up pancakes. "After breakfast
we'll be on our way!"
"Togi, togi-priii!" said Togepi, about to fall off the table.
"Pik!" said Pikachu, rushing over to Togepi and pulling it back. Pikachu
fell onto the floor.
"Togi, togi, togi!" laughed Togepi. Ash glanced at Pikachu and laughed.
"You ought to be more careful, Pikachu."
"Chaa," said Pikachu, hopping back up onto the table. Hadn't anyone
noticed that it was Togepi's fault?
"Here you go, Pikachu," Ash said, serving pancakes onto Pikachu's plate.
"Pika pik!" said Pikachu happily, digging in.
"Togi?" Togepi said. Misty laughed.
"Here you go, Togepi. You can have some pancakes too," she said, serving
some up for Togepi.
"Priii!"
After breakfast, Ash and his friends headed off.
"Be back in time for dinner!" called Ash's mom from the gate.
"We will!" Ash called back. "Bye mom!"
"Bye, honey!" she said, waving. The kids waved back. As they walked, Ash
remembered how, long ago, he had walked this same route when he first
began his pokémon journey.
"This reminds me of when I first began my pokémon journey!" he
exclaimed.
"And you wrecked my bike!" yelled Misty.
"WAA!" said Ash, falling over in surprise. "I will get you a new bike,
Misty!" he said, scrambling to his feet. "I just can't afford one yet.
Then you won't have to keep following me."
"Actually Ash," began Misty. "I have to tell you something." She
opened
her mouth to say that she didn't really need a new bike, and to tell him
the REAL reason she was still following him. But then she realised that
everyone was staring at her.
"What is it Misty?" asked Ash.
"Uh
you have some maple syrup on your collar," Misty said. Ash gave her
a puzzled glance as he wiped it off.
Several metres away, hidden in the bushes, Team Rocket watched Ash and
his friends through their binoculars.
"So those twerps are going to Viridian City," said Jessie.
"Remember when we wrecked the Viridian City pokémon centre, Jess?" said
James.
"And dat's when we foist saw dat Pikachu," said Meowth.
"We have to have a plan to capture that Pikachu," said Jessie.
"And this time it BETTER work," added James.
"Don't worry, you two," said Meowth. "Dis time I have da poifict
plan."
Chapter 5 - Ash is hungry (and stupid)
When Ash and his friends reached Viridian City it was midday.
"I'm hungry!" moaned Ash. "Can't we get some lunch?"
"We have to buy the potion, Ash!" said Misty.
"Can't we eat first?" begged Ash.
"Can't you think of anything but your stomach!" yelled Misty. "We'll buy
the potion and THEN we'll eat."
"Uh, OK," said Ash, backing away nervously and sweatdropping. He didn't
want to get hit with Misty's mallet.
"Looks like the pokémart is right over there," said Brock, pointing to a
building down the street.
"Alright! Let's go!" exclaimed Ash. He took off, running down the
street. Misty, Brock and Pikachu gave a sigh and then followed him.
At the pokémart Ash had some trouble finding the potion.
"Where's the potion?" he wondered.
"Duh, Ash! It's right behind you!" said Misty.
"WAAA!" said Ash, falling over in stupidity. "Oh yeah, it is too," he
said, standing up. "C'mon, let's go pay for this."
At the counter, a pretty dark-haired girl asked them,
"How can I help you?"
"We'd like to buy this potion, please," said Ash, placing the potion and
money on the counter.
"Hi," said Brock in a flirty voice. "My name's Brock, what's your
name?"
"Uh
Monica," the girl said, sweatdropping.
"Quit being pathetic, Brock," Misty said, pushing Brock away.
"Do you know where there are any good places where we could buy lunch?"
Ash asked Monica.
"Oh yes, there's a lovely café just down the road."
"Could you show us where it is?" asked Brock.
"BROCK!" yelled Misty. Monica smiled.
"Actually my lunch break is just starting, so I'll come with you and get
some lunch too."
"AWESOME!" shouted Brock.
"But who will mind the shop?" asked Misty.
"I will," said a boy, stepping up to the counter. "My shift is about to
start."
"Thanks Jack. See you later," said Monica.
"Bye Monica," said Jack.
"He's not your boyfriend is he?" Brock asked anxiously, as they went out
the door. Monica laughed.
"Oh, no. Jack is my brother. My father is the manager, and my whole
family works at the pokémart."
"So, do you have a boyfriend?" asked Brock. Ash, Misty and Pikachu fell
over in disgust.
"No," said Monica. "Not at the moment." Brock looked very happy.
"Hey, is that the café?" asked Ash, pointing to a café called "J and
J's".
"No, it isn't," said Monica. "This place looks new. But I'm so hungry,
we might as well eat here. Is that OK?"
"Mmm-hmm!" Ash, Misty and Brock said, nodding.
"Pikachu!" said Pikachu. They walked into the café.
"Those two look AWFULLY familiar," remarked Ash, staring at the two
chefs behind the counter.
"I'm sure I've seen them somewhere before," added Brock.
"Oh, who cares, let's just hurry up and get some food!" shouted Misty.
They walked up to the counter.
"Hello, young man," one of the chefs, a red-haired girl, said to Ash.
"How may we help you?" the other chef, a blue haired boy, asked.
"Do I know you two?" Ash asked suspiciously. The blue-haired boy turned
to the red-haired girl.
"I can't hold it in any longer!" he said
"I've just got to let it out!" she said.
"Let what out?" asked Ash.
"Prepare for trouble!" said the girl.
"And make it double!" the boy said.
"To protect the world from devastation."
"To unite all peoples within our nation."
"To denounce the evils of truth and love."
"To extend our reach to the stars above."
"Jessie!" she said, throwing off her costume to reveal her Team Rocket
outfit.
"James!" he said, doing the same.
"Team Rocket blast off at the speed of light."
"Surrender now, or prepare to fight."
"Meowth, dat's right!" Meowth said, appearing from behind the counter
and grabbing Pikachu out of Ash's arms.
"WAAA! It's Team Rocket!" said Ash. "Pikachu, thunderbolt!"
"Pika-CHUU!" said Pikachu, electrocuting Team Rocket. They flew up into
the air, making a hole in the roof.
"Looks like Team Rocket's blasting off AGAAIN!" they said, flying
through the air. Misty shook her head.
"Those guys never learn."
"I'm still hungry," complained Brock.
"Well, there's plenty of food here," said Ash.
"I wouldn't trust Team Rocket's cooking," said Misty. "Why don't we go
to that café Monica was talking about before?"
"Good idea, Misty," said Ash. "C'mon, let's go!"
He raced out the door. Misty, Brock and Pikachu sighed again.
Chapter 6 - A new friend
"Mmm, that was great!" said Ash, as they finished off their meal at the
café Monica had shown them.
"Thanks for taking us here, Monica," added Brock.
"You're welcome, Brock," said Monica. She glanced at her watch. "Oh,
look at the time! I'd better get back to work."
"No! Please don't go!" begged Brock, clasping her hands.
"Uh
well, I'm really needed at work," Monica said, sweatdropping.
"I'll come with you!' said Brock.
"Uh, Brock, we have to be back in time for dinner, remember?" said Ash.
"That's it!" shouted Brock. "Monica could come for dinner!"
Ash, Misty and Pikachu all fell over.
"Brock," said Ash. "My house is in Pallet Town. Monica's house is in
Viridian City. It would take her too long to get back."
"She could stay the night!" said Brock.
Everyone fell over again.
"So, do you want to?" Brock asked Monica.
"Uh, well, I wouldn't want to cause your mom any inconvenience," she
said, sweatdropping again.
"You wouldn't!" Brock said quickly. "Anyway, she's not my mom, she's
Ash's mom. So please come!"
"Well, alright, but only if it's alright with Ash's mom," said Monica.
"Alright!" shouted Brock, punching his fist into the air.
"Ash, hadn't we better check with your mom first?" asked Misty.
"How're we gonna do that?" Ash asked stupidly.
"Ring her up, stupid!" shouted Misty.
"Oh yeah, I knew that," Ash said, blushing and putting his hand behind
his head.
"You can use the phone at my house," offered Monica.
"Good idea, Monica," said Brock. "By the way, did you know how beautiful
you are?"
"Why, no, thank you!" Monica said, blushing.
"C'mon, let's go!" Ash said impatiently, leading the way.
At Monica's house, which was next to the pokémart, Ash rang his mom on
the videophone.
"Hi mom!" said Ash.
"Hi Ash!" said Mrs Ketchum. "Are you going to be home for dinner?"
"Wouldn't miss it, mom!" said Ash. "Is it OK if we bring a friend for
dinner? And to stay the night too?"
"Oh, of course, honey!" his mom said. "Your friends are always welcome
at our house, Ash."
"Thanks mom. See you later," said Ash.
"Bye, honey!"
Ash hung up the phone, and turned to the others.
"Well, what're we waiting for? Let's go!"
"Ash, Monica has to pack her stuff first!" said Misty.
"Oh yeah," said Ash.
"I'll just be a minute," said Monica, heading towards her room.
"I'll help you, Monica!" Brock said, racing after her. Ash and Misty
looked at each other and sighed.
"Brock never thinks about anything but girls," said Misty.
"Well I never think about girls," said Ash in a superior-sounding voice.
"You
you don't?" Misty said, sweatdropping.
"Nope!" said Ash. "Not even scrawny red-headed ones!"
"YOU JERK!" yelled Misty, whacking him with her mallet.
"Owww," moaned Ash.
Meanwhile, in Monica's room, Brock was helping, or rather, TRYING to
help Monica pack.
"D'you need this, Monica?" he asked, holding up a framed photo of
Monica's family. Monica laughed.
"Brock, it's only an overnight trip!"
"Right," said Brock. He watched her pack three pokéballs into her
backpack.
"What pokémon are those?" he asked.
"I'll show you when we get to Ash's house," she said, zipping up her
backpack. "That's all I need, I think." She swung her backpack onto her
shoulder. "C'mon, let's go."
They headed into the lounge to find Misty and Ash arguing.
"I AM NOT SCRAWNY!" yelled Misty.
"WELL, I'M NOT STUPID!" Ash yelled back.
"Guys, break it up!" said Brock. They ignored him.
"Why do you always have to whack me?" whined Ash.
"You deserve it!" Misty yelled.
"PIKA-CHUU!" Pikachu said, thunder-shocking them both.
"WAAA, alright, I'm sorry Pikachu, just stop it!" said Ash.
"This would never have happened, Ash Ketchum, if you hadn't INSULTED
me!" yelled Misty.
"Alright, let's go," said Brock. "We don't want to be late for
dinner."
Ash and Misty glared at each other, but they followed Brock out the
door.
Chapter 7 - A rare pokémon
When Ash and his friends arrived home Mrs Ketchum was waiting for them
at the gate.
"Hi everyone!" she said.
"Hi Mom!" said Ash. "This is our friend Monica."
"It's nice to meet you Monica," said Mrs Ketchum. "Come inside, dinner's
ready!"
"Mmm, this is great, Mom!" said Ash as he ate a croquette.
"You're a really good cook, Mrs Ketchum," said Monica.
"Oh, thank you Monica!" Mrs Ketchum said.
"I'll have to get some recipies off you," said Brock.
"Oh, of course Brock!" said Mrs Ketchum. "I'll have to get some of yours
too."
"Are you sure you have somewhere for me to sleep, Mrs Ketchum?" asked
Monica.
"She can sleep in Ash's room with us!" Brock said.
"Oh, no Brock, that'll be much too crowded!" Ash's mom said. "Monica can
sleep on the couch."
"I could sleep on the couch too!" shouted Brock.
"I don't think that would be such a good idea, Brock," said Ash.
"Why not? You and Misty share couches all the time," said Brock.
Ash and Misty sweatdropped.
"That's DIFFERENT! Pokémon centre couches are much bigger than Ash's
couch!" shouted Misty.
"Anyway, Brock snores," added Ash.
"I do NOT snore!" said Brock, blushing.
"How would you know, if you're asleep while you're doing it, Brock?"
asked Ash.
"You're too dumb to understand, Ash," said Brock.
"I am NOT dumb!" shouted Ash.
"Alright, alright!" interrupted Misty. "Monica on the couch, Brock in
Ash's room, OK?"
"OK," said Brock. "By the way Monica, you said you'd show us your
pokémon,"
"Yes I did!" said Monica. She took her pokéballs out of her backpack.
"Chansey, Tangela, Omanyte, go!" she said, throwing the pokéballs.
"Huh?" said Ash. "That's a Chansey, but what are those?" He got out
his
pokédex and pointed it at Tangela.
"Tangela," said his pokédex. "The vine pokémon. Its body is covered in
wide, seaweed-like vines that shake when it walks."
"A vine pokémon, huh," said Ash. He pointed his pokédex at Omanyte.
"Omanyte. The spiral pokémon. It has been extinct for tens of thousands
of years."
"Wow, extinct!" said Ash. "Then how'd you find it?"
"Modern technology," said Monica. "My cousin Amy in Cinnabar Island
cloned it for me using a helix fossil. I got Omanyte from her last
Christmas."
"Cool!" said Ash. "I bet that's a really rare pokémon!"
"You got that right, twerp," remarked Jessie as she peered through the
window of Ash's house.
"Jessie, I bet Boss would be really pleased if we gave him an Omanyte!"
said James.
"Yeah, and he wouldn't mind dat Chansey and dat Tangela either," said
Meowth. "Listen up you two, I got a plan
Chapter 8 - Together at last
"Oh no!" said Ash as Monica returned her pokémon. "I forgot to deliver
the potion to Professor Oak. I better give him a call and tell him I'll
give it to him in the morning.
"Good idea, honey!" his mom said.
Ash rang Professor Oak on the videophone.
"Hi Professor Oak," said Ash.
"Hello Ash," Professor Oak said. "Did you get me my potion?"
"Yes, Professor Oak," said Ash. "I'll give it to you in the morning,
OK?"
"Alright. Goodnight Ash."
"Goodnight Professor Oak." Ash hung up. "Guess we'd better get ready for
bed now," said Ash, yawning.
"I'll show you where the bathroom is, Monica," said Mrs Ketchum, leading
Monica out of the room.
"So will I," said Brock, rushing after them.
"Pika, Pika pi," Pikachu said to Togepi.
"Togi, togi-priii!" Togepi said. Pikachu and Togepi walked out of the
room together.
"Huh?" said Ash. "Why'd Pikachu and Togepi walk out of the room?"
"Seems like they're trying to leave us alone together," remarked Misty.
Ash scratched his head in confusion.
"Now, why would they want to do that?"
"Well, um," said Misty. "Maybe so that I could tell you about my, um,
crush."
"Crush on who?" asked Ash. Did Misty like someone else? That would be
too unfair. What if it was Brock?
"Just on a boy from Pallet Town," Misty said.
"Really? Then that must mean it's, no, it can't be
GARY?" said Ash.
Misty fell over in disgust.
"Of course it's not GARY, Ash!" she yelled, leaping to her feet.
"It's not? Then who is it? You don't know any other boys from Pallet
Town," he said.
"Duh, Ash! It's YOU!" Misty yelled.
"It is?" Ash said, surprised. "Well, I'm flattered, Misty." He blushed
and put his hand behind his head.
"Yeah, and
?" Misty said impatiently.
"And what?" asked Ash.
"Do you have a crush on me too!" she shouted.
"Oh!" said Ash. "I knew that," he added, embarrassed.
"So, ASH, what's the answer?" she asked.
"The answer?"
"DO YOU HAVE A CRUSH ON ME!" yelled Misty.
"Well, um, uh, yes," Ash said, blushing and with his hand behind his
head again.
"THANK YOU for answering that!" Misty said.
"You're welcome, Misty," Ash said happily. So Misty really DID like him.
"Well?" Misty impatiently said.
"Well what?" asked Ash.
"AREN'T YOU GONNA KISS ME!" she yelled.
"WAAA!" Ash fell over. "Well, um, I don't really know how," he said,
blushing.
"Alright, fine, I'LL kiss YOU," Misty said, leaning towards him.
"Hey Ash!" Brock said, appearing in the doorway.
"WAAA!" said Ash, falling over again. He got up quickly, blushing.
"What were you guys doing?" Brock asked suspiciously. Misty was blushing
too.
"We were just, um, talking about pokémon," said Ash.
"Oh, good excuse!" Misty yelled.
"Excuse for what?" asked Brock, confused.
"Nothing, nothing, nothing!" Ash said, frantically waving his hands.
"OK," Brock said uncertainly.
"Anyway, what'd you want?" Ash asked.
"I just wondered if you'd mind sleeping on the couch tonight so that
Monica could sleep in your room."
"And that would benefit you how?" Misty asked.
"We could talk," said Brock. "Monica knows a lot about pokémon."
"But you wouldn't talk about pokémon would you?" said Misty. "All you'd
want to do is flirt."
"Me!" shouted Brock. "What about YOU!"
"What do you mean?" asked Misty.
"You two were NOT talking about pokémon!" Brock said. "It looked like
you were about to kiss."
"NO WAY!" Misty and Ash shouted together.
"Deny it all you want," Brock said. "Anyway, can you sleep on the couch,
Ash?"
"NO, Brock!" said Ash. "Monica's sleeping on the couch, OK?"
"That's right honey," Mrs Ketchum said, walking into the kitchen, Monica
behind her. "Do you have a sleeping bag, Monica?"
"Yes I do, Mrs Ketchum. I'll just go set it up right now," Monica said,
heading into the lounge.
"Well, you kids had better go to bed," Mrs Ketchum said to Ash, Misty
and Brock.
"Pikachu!"
"Togi, togi!" Pikachu and Togepi walked into the kitchen and looked up
at Ash and Misty.
"WHAT?" Ash asked them.
"Misty hasn't kissed you goodnight yet, Ash," said Brock.
"Oh, SHUT UP!" yelled Misty.
"Chaa," said Pikachu, it's ears drooping.
"Togi-priii," Togepi said sadly.
"Oh, alright then!" said Misty, grabbing Ash by the collar and kising
him.
"Pika pika!" Pikachu said happily.
"Priiiii!"
"Isn't that sweet," said Mrs Ketchum. "Misty and my Ash."
"Well, it's about time!" Brock said.
"Happy now?" Misty asked, letting go of Ash's collar.
"Mmmhmm!" Ash, Brock and Mrs Ketchum said, nodding.
Chapter 9 - Midnight Invasion
Ash couldn't sleep. He couldn't believe how lucky he was - he and Misty
were finally together! On the top bunk, Misty couldn't sleep either.
"I can't believe Ash really does like me," she thought in amazement.
Brock couldn't sleep either. He was thinking about Monica. Suddenly they
all heard a loud crash.
"WAAA!" shouted Ash, falling out of bed. "What was that?"
"I hope Monica's alright," Brock said, jumping up.
"Let's go check it out," Misty said.
"James you idiot, you oughta be more careful," hissed Jessie. They'd
picked the lock of the Ketchum's front door, and were looking for
Monica's pokéballs.
"It wasn't my fault I knocked over that lamp, Jessie," whined James. "It
was in my way."
"Stop yapping, you two!" snapped Meowth.
"Hey! What're you guys doing here?" asked Ash from the doorway.
"It's that twerp!" said James.
"Prepare for trouble!" said Jessie.
"And make it double!" James said.
"To protect the world from devastation."
"To unite all peoples within-,"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, we know your dumb motto," interrupted Ash. "How'd you
guys get in here?"
"How DARE you interrupt our motto, twerp!" fumed Jessie.
"Here! I found the pokéballs, Jessie!" said James, holding up Monica's
pokéballs. Monica started to wake up.
"Monica!" cried Brock, rushing over to her. "Are you alright?"
"Huh? What's going on?" asked Monica, confused.
Jessie laughed evilly. "We have your pokéballs, sleeping beauty."
"And we're not going to give them back."
"AHHAHHAHHAH!" they both said, laughing evilly.
"Boss will sure like some rare pokémon," Meowth said.
"Pikachu, thunderbolt!" Ash said.
"PIKACHUUU!" Pikachu said, electrocuting Team Rocket.
"AAAH!" they shouted, collapsing into a heap on the floor. Monica's
pokéballs rolled across the floor. She scooped them up.
"Omanyte, go!" she said, throwing a pokéball.
"Weezing, smog attack!" James said, throwing a pokéball.
"Weezing!" Weezing said, letting out a cloud of smog. Everyone coughed.
"Omanyte, water gun!" Monica said.
"Omanyte!" it said, spraying a huge jet of water at Team Rocket.
"Alright, alright, we surrender!" moaned James.
"WHAT!" said Jessie, jumping to her feet.
"Come on Jessie, let's go," James said.
"What's going on?" Mrs Ketchum asked, appearing in the doorway.
"Uh, we were just leaving," Jessie said, heading for the front door.
"Goodbye," James said as they went out the door.
"Well, we failed again," grumbled James.
"Yeah, once again we didn't steal any pokémon," Meowth added.
"Never mind. There's always next time," said Jessie. "Anyway, there's
more to life than stealing rare pokémon."
"Huh?" James and Meowth said, staring at Jessie.
"I can't believe what I'm hearing," James said.
"Yeah, what're you talkin' about Jessie?" asked Meowth.
"I mean," said Jessie. "We still have each other."
"That's true!" James said. "Team Rocket will always stick together."
"Dat's right!" said Meowth.
Back at Ash's house, Brock was just explaining everything to Mrs
Ketchum.
"
and so Omanyte used its water gun and Team Rocket surrendered,"
finished Brock. "Monica's trained her Omanyte really well."
"Thank you," Monica said, blushing.
"Well, you've certainly all had a busy night," said Mrs Ketchum. Just
then Omanyte started glowing.
"Huh? What's it doing?" Ash said.
"It's changing!" said Brock.
"Look, your Omanyte is evolving!" remarked Misty.
"Alright!" exclaimed Monica. "My Omanyte evolved into an Omastar."
Ash pointed his pokédex at Omastar. "Omastar," dexter said. "Omanyte's
evolved form. According to some theories, Omastar died out when it's
heavy shell made it impossible for it to catch food."
"Omastar!" Omastar said.
"Oh, this is great!" Monica said. "Now I'll be able to teach it even
more attacks."
"Well, I'm real tired," said Misty, yawning. "I want to go back to
bed."
"Me too," yawned Ash.
"Omastar, return," said Monica. Omastar returned.
"Goodnight Monica," said Brock.
"Goodnight Brock. Sweet dreams," said Monica.
"Oh, they will be!" Brock said. Ash and Misty sighed.
Chapter 10 - Everyone Leaves
The next morning Ash and his friends took the potion to Professor Oak.
"Here's the potion you asked for, Professor Oak," Ash said, handing it
to him.
"Thank you Ash," Professor Oak said, taking the potion. "Do you plan to
stay in Pallet Town for much longer?"
"Well, I thought we could go check out the research lab on Cinnabar
Island," said Ash.
"How come WE didn't know about this, Ash?" asked Misty.
"I dunno. I just suddenly thought of it," replied Ash.
"I hear the research lab is pretty interesting, Ash," said Professor
Oak. "It's probably worth taking a look at."
"My cousin works there," remarked Monica. "That's where she cloned my
Omanyte from the helix fossil."
"Really? You have an Omanyte?" said Professor Oak. "Most interesting."
"Well, actually it evolved into an Omastar last night," said Monica.
"Monica's a really great trainer," added Brock.
"Thanks Brock," Monica said. "You know, I better be getting back to
Viridian City."
"No! You can't leave!" shouted Brock.
"I'm sorry, I really have to," said Monica. "I'm needed at the
pokémart."
"Well, we better go back to my house so we can get your stuff," said
Ash. "Bye Professor Oak."
"Goodbye Ash."
"So Ash, when did you plan on us going to Cinnabar Island?" asked Misty.
"I dunno, pretty soon. Today maybe," said Ash.
Misty and Brock fell over in surprise.
"Ash, we've only been here for a couple of days," Misty exclaimed.
"So? We can always come back here," Ash said.
Misty, Brock and Pikachu sighed.
Back at Ash's house, Monica got ready to leave.
"It's certainly been lovely having you stay here, Monica," said Mrs
Ketchum.
"Thank you so much for letting me stay the night, Mrs Ketchum," Monica
said.
"Oh, it was my pleasure!" Mrs Ketchum said.
"Actually mom," began Ash. "Me and Misty and Brock were thinking about
going to Cinnabar Island for a couple of days."
"Pika pika!"
"Togi-priii!"
"Oh yeah, and Pikachu and Togepi too," added Ash.
"Oh honey I'll miss you so much!" Mrs Ketchum said.
"It's only gonna be for a few days, mom," Ash said. "We'll come back I
promise."
"Well you'd better hurry if you want to catch the next boat," his mom
said.
"OK mom, we'll just go pack," said Ash, dashing off to his room.
A few minutes later, Mrs Ketchum stood at the gate to wave goodbye to
everyone.
"Bye Monica," said Brock. "Maybe we'll meet again someday."
"Maybe we will, Brock," Monica said. "Goodbye!"
"Bye everyone!" said Mrs Ketchum, waving.
"Bye mom," said Ash. They all waved back.
So as Ash and his friends headed off in the opposite direction as
Monica, bound for Cinnabar Island, new adventures awaited them around
every corner.
