Chapter 1: The Mysterious Bag
Misty was sleeping in the Gym, along with Ash & Brock. She slowly opened her eyes and
stared at the ceiling. She then noticed a small bag with some green syringes in it on her
chest. A note was on it. It read: "Misty, if you need to stay underwater for longer
than you can hold your breath, use 1 of these." She recognized the writing was her
sister's, Daisy. Then she got out of bed, note & bag at hand. Wandering around in the
dark, she found Ash's room & woke him up. "Come with me."
"Shouldn't we wake up Brock?" Ash asked.
"No, this has nothing to do with him." she replied, "Just follow me!"
in a harsh whisper. She led Ash down a long hall. "Misty, what are those green things
in the bag?" Ash asked, wondering why Misty would want him with her.
"Read the note." she replied, and while Ash followed her, he read the note.
"Oh, now I see. But why do you want me with you?" he wondered.
"I just want to figure out why Daisy gave them to me. I also want you to know, so we
can tell Brock." she replied. "It's really dark in here. I can't see a
thing." looking around, not seeing the walls or Ash or anything!
"Well, I can see your silhouette.". Ash put a hand on Misty's shoulder. Misty
could tell Ash was behind her. "Feel better now?" he asked.
"Yeah." Ash could tell she was smiling. Misty turned around. She saw black, but
she knew Ash was there because she knew Ash's arm was coming from there. "Follow me.
I'm going slow for obvious reasons." and Ash kept that hand on her shoulder so he
could tell if she was turning. She reached what she thought was the end of a hall. She
took the door to her right, which would lead them to the large room where the pool was.
"The other door leads to the diving board.". She opened the door, and warned,
"Careful, 1 wrong step and you're in the pool. Just follow me.". She led him in
there. She hadn't been there for a while, so she fell into the pool. Ash got on his hands
& knees, and stuck his hand in the water, and created a noise. She realized Ash was
guiding her to the surface, so she just swam after it. She grabbed Ash's hand, and he
pulled her up. Misty hugged him. "You okay, Misty?" Ash asked.
"I'm fine, thanks. Let's turn the lights back on." she walked off, knowing where
the pool was. Then the lights turned on by themselves. Ash & Misty shielded their
eyes, and then when they opened up, they saw Daisy looking at them. "So you found my
note, Misty." she said, happy.
"Yeah, but what are they for?" she asked.
"Remember the time we had that big act when you came with Ash & Brock? We knew
the part of the princess was hard, but we couldn't think of a virtually invisible
solution. Then we got a magazine which had those things. We wanted you to have some of
them when you took that diving trip. When you give yourself a full dose, you can stay
under for 5 minutes on top of how long you can hold already. They were just for the Gym,
but take them. You never know when you'll need them, so carry some of them in your pocket.
If you surface before the 5 minutes is up, all the time you didn't use is wasted. Good
luck, and anyone under 10 should avoid using them. You should get some sleep, it's only 1
in the morning. Sweet dreams!", and Daisy walked through the door to the diving
board. Ash & Misty walked back along the dark corridor to where they were sleeping.
Chapter 2: Latenight Mudslide
Misty woke up at 8:30 that morning. She opened her eyes, but she was still tired. But
still, she knew Ash & Brock wanted to get a move on. She woke Ash up, and then woke
Brock up. They ate some breakfast, and left, & headed toward the mountains surrounding
Pewter City. They finally got to Mt. Moon. It was getting late, so they decided to set up
camp on a hillside meadow. Once dinner was eaten & their tents set up, they were all
in their own tents. Back in Cerulean, they got rid of the big tent & bought 2 smaller
ones, big enough to fit 1 person. The zipper entrances were facing each other. They all
agreed to sleep with their heads facing the middle. Each of their packs were in their own
tent. They finally got to sleep, and an hour later, it started to rain. Heavily. It woke
everyone up but Brock. Then Ash & Misty heard a faint roar that continued to grow
louder. Brock woke up. Ash opened up the zipper to his tent, and then saw a mudslide ready
to come through their campsite. "Misty! Brock! Grab your packs & get out of your
tents!", but he was too late. The mudslide flowed & took Misty & Brock's
tents with it, but Ash's tent was untouched. He put his tent on & ran after the
mudslide with his friends. In Misty's tent, Misty took a deep breath, and used 1 of those
syringes Daisy gave her, and used it on herself. Then she put her pack on & held on.
Brock's tent hit a rock, and went out of view. Seeing this, Ash used a syringe on himself,
and jumped toward Misty's tent. He had to close his eyes and rely only on the sense of
touch. He felt the zipper to her tent. Misty thought, "It's all over. Just when I
have someone I love (Ash), a good team of Pokemon, why does it have to end like
this?", she then started to cry, but in her mind. ZZZZZIIIIPPPP! She jumped, to see
no one but a completly mud caked Ash. Misty knew she was with Ash, but Ash didn't know he
was with Misty. She just grabbed his hand and closed her eyes. Ash got her to the surface
of the mud, then they slammed into a boulder. Ash wiped the mud from his face & eyes,
allowing him to breathe & see again. Misty did the same, and Ash found out he was with
Misty. "Misty. How do you feel?" Ash asked
"I feel fine. I ask the same question to you." she responded.
"I'm ok. There's your tent.". It wasn't broken, just needed to be cleaned. Misty
asked, "Where's your tent, Ash?"
Chapter 3: Tents & Blankets, Ash & Misty
Ash: "It's where I set it up. How are we going to put your tent near mine?"
"We'll need to drag it up. If Brock were here, he'd just call on his Onix, and we'd
all be there in no time." Misty muttered, angry. It was still raining, so the mud all
over them just washed away. Once they had Misty's tent near Ash's, her hair was glittering
orange (like it normally is), and she looked as if there was no mudslide. She was only
drenched, and Ash was the same way. They put the zipper enterances face to face &
open, with a blanket on top making sure no rain tickled their faces. They just crawled
into their thick blankets, and fell to sleep when Jigglypuff sang its lullaby. Their faces
weren't drawn on because Jigglypuff was miles away. "Good night, Ash. Sweet
dreams..." and Misty drifted off to sleep.
"You too, Misty. I love you..." and Ash fell to sleep, a smile on his face. The
rain let up, letting them sleep. The next morning...
Ash woke up. There was sunlight. He checked his watch, and it read 8:42. He was
tired... so tired. Misty woke up, and Ash jumped. "Hi, Ash. Tired?" Misty asked.
"Yeah. Should we just lay low, or get moving?" he asked.
"We should get some rest. I feel hideous. I don't mean sick, but I'm just wiped out.
I'm just tired..." and she either blacked out or fell to sleep in Ash's eye, but she
was really awake but just kept her eyes closed. Seeing this, Ash asked, "Misty, are
you all right?", urgency in his voice.
"I'm just weak... so weak." she responded weakly, even worse than the time Ash
woke her up after they got washed up on the island of Porta Vista. He took a pulse from
her neck. She would normally be ticklish there, but she wasn't reacting at all. It was
just average.
"You just need your rest, Misty. You'll be fine.". She then drifted off to
sleep. Ash smiled. He thought, "Good job, Misty. You're gonna be just fine.".
Ash cooked himself some breakfast, and took a nap just like Misty, but he was 5 minutes
sleeping, and then Misty woke him up, but she had no intention of that. She just opened up
a granola bar wrapper, and he awoke. "Misty, do you feel any better?" Ash asked.
"Not much.". She took a bite of the granola bar. "See if you can call Nurse
Joy or Professor Oak and see if one of them can help us.".
Chapter 4: Oak's Advice
"I don't think Joy would know anything. I'll call Oak." and Ash dialed Oak's
number. "Hello, is Professor Oak there?"
Oak's Aid: "Just a moment."
Oak: "Ash? Is that you? Where are you?"
Ash: "Between Cerulean & Pewter City. I wanted to ask you..."
Oak: "Whoa, your friend Misty doesn't look her best. Is she all right?"
Ash: "That's why I'm calling you. What should I give her to make her feel
better?"
Oak: "Well, if she ever blacks out, give her some Awakening, if that doesn't work try
a Revive. Otherwise, just give her a Potion at lunch time. And make sure she gets plenty
of rest. Can I speak to her?"
Ash: "Sure. Misty, Professor Oak wants to talk to you."
Misty: "Hi, Professor." in as cheerful a voice she could say.
Oak: "I only wanted to say this: drink a Potion every time you eat lunch & make
sure you get plenty of rest & you'll be fine. Got it? You don't look as spunky as you
usually are." urgency in his voice.
Misty: "Got it. Bye!"
Oak: "Good-bye." Oak & Misty hung up. 3 days later, Misty feels fine. But I
wonder why Oak called them back that 3rd day...
Oak: "Ash, where's Brock? He should be with you."
Ash: "There was a mudslide the night before we called you. Poor Misty must have been
weakened getting out of there, & that's why she was so weak. While the mudslide was
flowing, Brock's tent somehow got flung out & he disappeared over a hill. Do you think
we should go after him, or stay put. Misty & I are fine." he asked.
Oak: "You have to go after him! See ya!" and they hung up.
Chapter 5: The Rolling Stone
Once Ash & Misty had their tents deconstructed, they left & followed the path of
the mudslide. There had been sun for the 3 days they were resting, so the mud had hardened
into a thick, gray, solid crust, not to mention a little slippery (because it was so
smooth). Ash & Misty crawled down this hardened mud flow. They didn't want to slide
down it, because they remembered it ended at a boulder. Ash heard a roar. "Hey, hear
something?"
"Yeah, but what is it?" she responded. "GRAVELLLLLLEEEEERRRRRRRR!".
Obviously, Misty didn't scream that, it was a Pokemon barreling down the hard slide.
"Run for it!!!" Ash screamed as he started running toward the bottom of the
hill. Misty was at his heels. Misty slipped, and crashed into Ash. They rolled into the
boulder, both of them blacking out. The Graveler rolled into the boulder, just barely
missing the blacked out Ash & Misty. The boulder gave way to their weight & force,
and cracked, plunging then into a small lake.
The water revived Ash. His head ached a little, but lucky for him, he didn't seem to
have any broken bones. He gave himself a green needle, & a Super Potion. He looked at
the blacked out Misty. She seemed so limp... so lifeless. He took a green needle (from her
pocket) and stuck it into her leg, and also took a very expensive Revive and gave it to
her. He knew he only had to wait a few seconds...
...and she opened her eyes. The first thing she saw was clear, blue sparkling water,
& a smiling Ash looking down on her from above. She smiled back and swam up to him,
face to face. Ash pointed to her thigh, & she noticed the green needle in her leg, and
she realized she had 6 minutes down there. She pulled the needle out. While she yanked
them out, she noticed the Graveler that cracked the boulder. It wasn't moving, so she just
glanced at it, then looked at Ash again. Ash gave her the thumbs up, which meant surface.
Chapter 6: Reunited
They surfaced. "Thanks a lot, Ash." Misty smiled.
"Why didn't you wake up when the water surrounded you?" Ash asked.
"My body's too used to that shock, so I didn't notice. I took a lot of diving
practice when I was younger, around 6 or 7. You never got that, so you notice it more than
I do." she explained. "We should try to find Brock now."
"You're right. I wonder why he didn't find us while we got some rest?" Ash
asked.
"Maybe because" as she paddled through her swimming strokes, "he's had it
worse than us?" she thought out loud. "That can't be... or maybe it can."
Ash said, his mind & heart racing thinking about Brock.
Meanwhile, back where Ash & Misty camped for 3 days, Brock heard some murmurs (they
were Ash & Misty in their conversation, but Brock didn't know that). He saw the tracks
in the hard mudslide, and followed them. As he followed the slide, the murmurs grew
louder.
"You're right. I'm gonna get some rest on shore. Coming with me?" she asked.
"Yeah, I'll come with you, I'm starting to cramp up." Ash replied. Brock began
to run down the slide, and he slipped! As he careened down the slick slope, he saw it
ended at a cliff! He began to breathe heavily, a wave of pure terror swept through him,
and he screamed. Ash's cramps went away. They were sprawled out on the shore, on their
backs, eyes closed, while they soaked in the sun which dried them off, not to mention felt
good on their bodies. Then they heard the scream, got up, pointed to each other &
said: "Tthhaatt ssoouunnddeedd lliikkee BBrroocckk!" in unison, with stunned
looks on their faces. Then they saw Brock fall from the top of the cliff into the lake.
Ash & Misty didn't know it, but Brock sent out his Poliwhirl and got to the surface.
"Brock, where have you been?" Misty asked.
"It's not a long story..." as he told his story, you could have thought Ash
& Misty were listening to Jigglypuff. They felt their eyes get heavy, then they leaned
on each other's backs, then their eyelids drooped down. "And then... huh?" Brock
looked up & saw Ash & Misty sleeping. They all felt the sun coming down on them,
and Ash & Misty liked that a lot, especally after having themselves cooped up in tents
for 3 days straight. On the other hand, Brock had been walking around for 3 days straight.
Chapter 7: Camp on the Lake
A couple of hours later, Ash woke up. He saw Brock setting up his own tent, and it was
getting dark. He felt Misty was still sleeping, so he just closed his eyes & waited
for her to wake up. Then ˝ an hour later, Ash was still awake, but he noticed it was
nearly dark & he had to wake Misty up, no matter what. He just got up, Misty slumped
back, and opened her eyes to a big surprise. She thought (as Ash looked down on her),
"Man, it's nearly dark?". Then she said, "Hi Ash."
"Brock says dinner will be ready in a ˝ hour. I'm setting my tent up now." and
Ash slowly slunked off to set his tent up, entrance facing Brock's. Misty did the same,
and she finished 5 minutes before dinner was ready. Ash finished at the same time. They
started to eat dinner, and then Misty took a sip of the chili Brock cooked from scratch.
Then she ran over & dove into the water, exhaling. Then, before she fainted, she stuck
a green needle in her leg so she wouldn't. Then after collecting herself, surfaced.
"Misty, what's the matter?" Ash asked, stunned.
Misty: "Brock," (she breathed deeply) "put a little less spice in your
chili next time. <groan>"
Brock: "Uh, sorry. (blushing)"
Ash: "Hey, let me try."
Misty: "DON'T, ASH!"
Ash: "You're sure I shouldn't try it?" Misty: "From where I am, I'm very
sure." She climbed back onto shore & got an instant lunch out of her pack &
ate it. Ash followed suit. The next morning...
Misty woke up to howling winds, and what sounded like a person... she didn't know. But
then she recognized it suddenly as none other than... Ash? She heard another groan, and
she knew it... that was Ash. But how? She knew that Ash wouldn't be groaning for no reason
at all. She opened her tent and saw what happened.
Chapter 8: The Injured Ash
She opened her tent up & saw that Ash was crawling toward her tent, trying to stay out
of the wind. There was hardly any light out, and Misty almost missed him, but while she
was crawling around in the grass, she bumped into him. "Misty! What are you doing
up?" Ash said, thinking he'd have to wake Misty up.
"I heard you groaning out here, so I came out. What's wrong?" she asked,
worried.
"It's my left wrist. Now come on. We need to get in a tent, so I can get a better
look at this thing." he suggested. Misty helped him into her tent. "I was just
sleeping... then something hit me... a rock, I think."
"Well, it is bleeding a little. Does it hurt to touch it anywhere?" she asked,
and bad look on her face.
"No." Ash replied.
"Here, the Potion will help cure it.". Ash drank it, then while he was doing
that, Misty put a bandage on his wrist to stop the bleeding.
"Thanks, Misty." and Ash left Misty's tent. Then he saw a figure that looked
like Gary! This scared him so bad he said in a harsh whisper, "Misty, Misty open your
tent!"
"What is it, Ash?" in another whisper that was barely heard by Ash.
"Come on out here. I want you to look at something."
"All right, what is it?" Misty got out of her tent.
"Look over there. Does it remind you of..." Ash never finished.
"Gary! Get in your tent!" Misty's whispering yelp.
Chapter 9: Gary's Separation Trick
The next morning, Ash got up at 7:30, and immediately woke Misty & Brock up to tell
them,
"Deconstruct your tents & run for it!". 10 minutes later, they were done,
and they began running along the river. "But Ash, what are we running around
for?" Brock asked, wondering why this was happening.
"So we can get away from Gary without battling him!" he screamed, but when he
looked ahead, his heart sank. He saw the unmistakable figure of Gary, with his back to the
sun. Ash dove into the water, in an attempt to get away from him. Gary stayed calm, even
after Misty dove in after him. "Cloyster, Spike Cannon!" Ash & Misty gave
themselves green needles, and just held hands & let the current drive them where it
wanted.
Then Ash heard 2 splashes, Gary's Cloyster, and Brock. Last night, Misty told Brock
about the green needles, so he used one on himself. Then the Cloyster shot a cannon aimed
at Ash, but once Ash saw it, he realized was gonna hit Misty, he pulled her in close to
himself, and pointed over to where she was. Seeing the spike move through fast made Misty
smile & hug Ash, but he realized they weren't out of the woods yet. They felt Brock
bang into them, then he grabbed Misty's free arm. They weren't concerned at all about air,
because they had bigger things on their minds; that Cloyster that was after them.
Suddenly, Misty heard a splash & realized it was Gary! But they were concerned
about Cloyster more than him; they knew he couldn't have the oxygen needles that they had,
so he had to come up for air more. The current kept moving them along pretty fast, &
Gary called back his Cloyster. He then got back on shore and gave up the chase. Misty's
hand slipped from Brock's, so they were separated... again. Ash grabbed Misty's free hand
& then saw a break in the river was coming. Brock was headed toward the left fork
(wilderness).
Ash & Misty realized they were back on the river to Cerulean from Pewter. Then Ash
& Misty surfaced and found themselves coming toward the waterfall (the waterfall at
the end of the first fanfic). So they sent out Squirtle & Starmie, grabbed hands, and
looked out at that forest again. They looked at each other, smiled, and looked down at the
drop. Then they felt the water, surfaced, and then called their Pokemon back. They let the
current let them drift back to Cerulean. Brock had no clue where he was going, so he
climbed onto shore & walked along the shore, against the flow of the river. So, let's
review: Ash & Misty are bound to get back to Cerulean, and Brock is in the middle of
nowhere.
Chapter 10: The Thunder of Wild Raichu
When the current finally pulled Ash & Misty into Cerulean, the river was calm, so it
was easy to get back on the shore. They both ran, silently, back out of town toward Mt.
Moon & Pewter in search of Brock. They didn't know it at the time, but Brock was on
Route 24, north of Cerulean, so they weren't even close. They walked a circle around the
mountain, but saw no sign of him. It was getting late, so they decided to camp near a warm
hot spring.
They could both see Cerulean in the distance. Ash & Misty set up their tents,
changed into their bathing suits, and got into the spring for a warm, relaxing bath. Misty
undid her hair bun, closed her eyes, and immersed herself in the warm water. Ash just
stayed at the surface. Misty stayed down as long as she could, (which was about a minute)
but she didn't want to waste a needle. She surfaced, climbed out of the spring, & got
in her tent. Then she got out of her bathing suit, dried herself off with a towel, put
some clothes on, and finally re-did her hair bun. At the same time, Ash did the same.
Climbing out of the tents, they noticed that they were both sweating, not because of the
spring nearby, but because it was warming up... naturally. So they decided to get a sheet
& a blanket, and sleep together, ignoring the tents. They ate some instant lunches for
dinner, and didn't get to sleep that easily. They just lay there, looking at each other
with smiles on their faces. Ash saw Misty's ponytail bobbing against the background office
latenight lights of Cerulean. Ash saw she was blushing a little. He also realized he was
blushing a little. Misty just stared at him, with nothing but love sitting in her mind.
She put a hand on Ash's shoulder. He did the same to her. They were friends... and love
was a bridge between them. Misty closed her eyes & drifted off to sleep. Ash was
beginning to become drowsy & fall to sleep. He slipped under...
Ash's watch read 3 in the morning, but he was still sleeping. Misty's hand still lay on
his shoulder, and Ash's arm on Misty's shoulder. The crickets were chirping, like it was
any other night. A wild Raichu, abandoned by its trainer, was mourning by itself. Then,
suddenly, its sadness turned to anger. It then powered up to perform its strongest attack;
thunder. It saw Ash & Misty sleeping there, and Raichu let its charge aim at Misty's
hand. The hand that was limply laying on Ash's shoulder. When it hit, Misty felt the whole
charge. When it first hit her, she woke up with a yelp, then saw a bright, white light,
with Ash's silhouette in the background. She felt the wind knocked out of her, hard to do
to her, and Ash watched it pure horror what it did to Misty. Her hair stood on end, and
she knew it. Ash stood up, Poké Ball at hand ready to battle.
Chapter 11: Melanie Revisited
"Rai rai raichu!" it laughed. In Ash's eye this was no laughing matter. Misty
just lay there, cool to the touch & not breathing. He immediately knew what to do-
give her a Revive, and when she woke up, some Hyper Potion. Then she'd be fine. He knew he
had to battle the wild Raichu- but he heard something. 2 things. Misty was breathing, but
she was weezing a little. He also heard running- but he didn't know what it was. He
started the battle. "Bulbasaur, go!". Ash then saw the girl who gave him
Bulbasaur run up to the Raichu.
"Raichu, please come back to the village! I need you! The injured Pokemon need
you!" she said, tears coming to her eyes.
"Rai raichu. <oh, all right>"
"That's great. Oh my gosh!". She noticed Misty just laying there, & Ash
looking down on her with a worried look. "Misty, Misty. Hey, wake up.". Nothing.
Ash began to cry for her. "Misty was the first person I met on my journey. At first,
I wished she'd go away! And now look how good she's been to me! Ohhh, I wish there was
something to do.... to help her.", but he was only talking to himself in his mind.
The girl asked, "Can I help you?"
"There's nothing you can do for her. I need to get her back to Cerulean." Ash
replied, thinking he'd heard her last word.
"That's okay, I've moved to the outskirts of Cerulean. I can help you."
"I'll need it. Just lead me there & I can find the Gym from there." Ash
groaned & carried her quietly off, following her lead. An hour later, the sun was
coming out & they were out at Cerulean.
"See you later, & many thanks." was Ash's final words to her as he carried
Misty to the Gym. Then, standing at the front door of the Gym, there was Brock!
"Brock, where have you been?"
"Ash, there you are! Where have you been- and what in the world happened to
Misty?!?!"
"It's a long story... I'll explain later. Open the door." Daisy was coming to
the door, and opened it. "Ash? Brock? Misty?!?!". Even she was appalled by what
condition Misty was in. "What happened to her?"
"Come on. Let's get her a bed and I'll explain everything." Ash carried her into
her own bedroom where she used to sleep when she was younger. He told them the long story,
and then Ash walked into a guest room to get some rest from the long hike. He took off his
jacket & got some sleep. Brock did the same, and he realized why Ash was sleeping at
11 in the morning. He kept sleeping until around 7 in the evening. He heard a knock on his
door which woke him up. When he opened it, he saw no one but a smiling Misty.
"Misty... you're alive!" He embraced her in a hug and started crying. She felt
the tears from his eyes on her cheek. She hugged him back. Now Ash felt Misty's tears.
Chapter 12: Misty's Story
They broke up & walked into the guest room where Ash slept most of the day. "So
what did you feel when you got shocked by that Raichu?" Ash asked, wondering what she
could have felt. He realized it
was like Pikachu, but had to be worse.
"I got zapped by so much electricity I barely saw you stand up, and everything else
was just a pale yellow. Then my eyes closed, & saw a tunnel of light."
"How did you feel when you last saw me in that weird pale yellow?"
"Everything cramped up. I was winded- pretty hard to do to me."
"Yeah, that electricity is like your brain telling all your muscles to contract. Does
anything feel like it's strained or torn?" Ash asked, still a little worried.
"Nothing, but why- don't ask me." she replied, glad she was with Ash, and got
through it in one piece. Then they heard the intercom. "Misty, Ash, Brock! Dinner's
almost ready!"
After they ate dinner, Misty invited Ash to sleep in her room. He accepted, but she
didn't get to sleep right away. She read some books for a half hour, then walked into the
bathroom to change into her swimming suit. "Misty, what are you doing?" Ash
asked, wondering what she was doing.
"I'm gonna change. See you at the private pool... if you can find it." she
replied. It was true. Cerulean Gym had 2 pools: a showroom with lots of risers, which
doubled as a battling ground. The other pool was a pool never seen by the public. Once
Misty got out of the bathroom, (her red swimsuit on) walked out the door and into the
private pool. It had a glass roof, where you could bathe in the sun by day, and gaze at
the stars by night.
Ash knew about the pool, but he didn't know where it was. He decided to get into his
swimsuit & track Misty down. He then left her room & tried to figure out how she
got there. He noticed a map of the gym's structure to his right. He read it, then realized
he should take the hall on his left. He walked through it, and saw the showroom. He saw
lots of risers, and barely saw Misty walk out a different door. He chased after her. Then
he tried to open the door, and it was locked. He tapped on it, and Misty turned around,
looking at him through a small window in the door. She opened the door, letting him in.
"Want to swim with me?" Misty asked.
Chapter 13: The Secret Pool
"Sure. But why aren't you sleeping now?"
"I can't sleep. And besides, I haven't been home much, so I figure I'll enjoy it a
little. Come on! Dive in with me!". Misty began to climb the ladder up to the top of
the diving board. Ash followed. They held hands, and jumped off at the same time. They
felt the warm water around them, let go, and swam to the surface for air. Misty got out of
the pool & found a big foam pad & 2 smaller ones. She threw them into the water
effortlessly, then jumped in the water and got on the big one. "Get on!" she
exclaimed.
"Well, sure." Ash replied.
"See that constellation of stars over there?" Misty pointed.
"I don't even know what 'constellation' means, Misty." he replied.
"A constellation is a group of stars that some people think represent something. Now,
see those 8 stars in the shape of a dipper?" she explained.
"Yeah."
"Now, look at the end on the dipper and look that way. See the star? It's known as
Polaris, or the North Star. It always leads north." she continued.
"How do you know all of this?" Ash asked, stunned.
"Simple. My sisters told me all this." she replied. "I'm freezing.".
Misty jumped in the water, warming her up very quickly. She enjoyed being under the water.
Ash dove in after her. Misty smiled at him. Ash smiled back. Then Misty noticed the pool
was running a little low, so she surfaced, leaving Ash clueless on what she was doing, so
he chased after her. "Misty, where ya going?"
"Fill the pool. The switch is in the water, so if you want to see it, follow
me.", and she dove back down, looking around in the water. Ash dove in after her, and
he saw where she was going. She swam right under Ash. He turned around. He then saw a
panel of small buttons: temperature, humidity, and how much water in the pool. The entire
pool was 10 feet deep. Misty was there and told it to put some more water in the pool. Her
cheeks were bulging, so she swam to the surface frantically. Ash followed suit. Misty
climbed up on top of a small foam pad. Ash took the big pad & the other smaller pad
next to Misty's. "Do you feel allright?" Ash asked.
"Just short of breath, otherwise I'm fine." she replied. "Wanna sleep out
here tonight?"
"Why?" Ash asked.
"Well, if we went back to my room, we'd have to change. And besides, it's warm enough
in here we could fall asleep just as we are." she explained.
"You're right. I'll stay with you. Should we turn out the lights in here?"
"I'll do it. Swirl the water with your hand so I know where you are & where the
surface is.". She dove in, and Ash stirred the water noisily. Going on just that, she
swam to the surface. "Keep churning!" Misty began to swim toward the light
switch near the door. She climbed out of the water, and found it on the wall. She flipped
the switch, and the lights went out. Ash kept his hand moving in the water.
Misty walked along the floor, and a false step caused her to just fall in. She then
surfaced on the churning of Ash's hand. "Misty, swim toward my voice! Don't dive
under the water!". Ash just murmured some meaningless words, and then felt a nudge
from the pad. Ash stuck his hand in the water, and while she did 360's underwater, felt
his hand just graze her head. Misty grabbed his hand, and Ash pulled her out of the water,
onto the pad. They were face to face with each other, but they didn't know it. Misty
hugged Ash. He smiled, then hugged Misty back. Then Misty let go, slumped down on the pad
& started sleeping. "Good night, Ash." were Misty's last words for the day.
"See you in the morning... Misty." Ash smiled & got closer to her. He was a
little cold, and Misty
was freezing, so she wanted him close.
Chapter 14: Pool Escape
Misty woke up first that morning. Then, when she looked around, she realized she was
floating on that pad with Ash about 20 feet higher than the water should have been! Misty
realized she had to wake Ash up. Misty shook him. "Misty, what is it?"
"Take a look around." The first rays of sunlight were coming. "I need to
dive down & hit the switch in the pool, but even I don't think I can make it!"
she squealed.
"Misty, the pool with the risers is deeper than this. I know you can do it!" Ash
smiled.
"You're right. Coming with me? Hey, look! There's 2 green needles!" Misty
exclaimed.
"Well, I'm coming with you! Let's go!" Ash replied, confidence building up.
Misty dove in. Ash dove in after her. On the way down, Misty handed Ash 1 of the 2 green
needles. Misty hadn't used hers, and Ash wanted to use it later. They continued to dive
down toward the where the water usually was, and felt a gentle current pushing them toward
the middle of the pool. It was easy to fight though.
Misty finally got to the control panel, and instructed it to suck the water out. Then
she gave Ash the thumbs up, which meant surface. This time, the gentle inward
current was a larger outward pull. Ash held his own against it; Misty completly beat it.
If Brock was here, he'd need help. Misty surfaced. Ash was a little longer after her, but
made it in the end. When the water was almost the right level, Misty dove under & told
the machine to keep the water at a constant 80 degrees. Then she surfaced, and told Ash to
creep out the door & in her room to change clothes. Misty's sister, Daisy, almost
caught them in the long corridors, but they made it.
When they got in Misty's room, Ash walked into the bathroom & got some clothes on.
Misty was next, and she told him, "Sneak into your room & take a nap. I'm already
tired, and you're worse at swimming than me. But that isn't saying much..." and she
walked into the bathroom. Ash got to his room, no problem, and took a nap. Misty got out
of the bathroom, and she watched TV. Then she turned it off & slept. When 9 AM came,
they ate breakfast & left for the mountains.
Chapter 15: Blizzard Breeze
Brock wanted to travel to some volcanoes near Pewter City. Misty agreed because she knew
just about any Pokemon that came up in the area could be beaten easily, and any Pokemon
that couldn't be beaten easily Ash could handle. That Pokemon Misty couldn't beat easily
was Zubat. Ash wanted to go because he wanted some Fire Pokemon. They started walking
west, toward Pewter. When they finally got to the mountains, Brock said, "The
map says the volcano is north of here."
Brock pointed. They kept on walking....
... and Brock thought the remote base near the volcano was only a few miles from where
they were, but there was a blizzard! They had to yell to hear each other. "MISTY!
AREN'T YOU COLD YET!" Ash wasyelling at the top of his voice.
"I'M FREEZING! LET'S STOP NOW & WAIT FOR THIS TO BLOW OVER!" Misty could
reach out & hold Ash by the shoulder if she wanted. The winds were howling. Ash didn't
know why Misty didn't have both her legs frostbitten by now. "YOU'RE RIGHT!"
"Vulpix, come out!" Brock would dig them a snow cave. "Flamethrower!"
Vulpix did that to the ground right in front of them. Then the snow they were standing on
gave way & they fell! "Hey, this place looks familiar! Vulpix! Use flamethrower
on the snow wall!" Ash cried. Vulpix did that, and helped Misty & Brock to their
feet. "Get in!" Misty ran in the cave after him, and Brock was limping in after
them. "You ok Brock?" Ash asked.
"I'm fine. We've been here before. That hot spring Misty & I mentioned is
above our heads & that way. Vulpix, flamethrower. That way, and not too much."
Brock pointed. The flame melted the snow to water which froze immediately.
"Vulpix, Ember. Follow me guys!" Ash & Misty walked after him. Brock told
Vulpix to use flamethrower again. He knew which direction to go. After a couple of more
blasts, they saw the spring.
The snow surrounding it had melted, leaving a large cavern around the spring. The sides of
the spring were solid rock, dry as a bone. Misty took her shoes & socks off. Then she
dipped her lower legs in the spring. Ash was setting up his tent, but he needed some more
room! "Charmander, go!"
"Charmander, flamethrower on the snow wall for my tent! <burns it down> All
right! Way to go!". Ash shoved his tent in the hole Charmander burned out. Then he
got in & changed into his bathing suit to soak in the hot water. When Ash got out,
Misty spoke to him. "Ash, can you tell Charmander to burn a hole in the wall for my
tent?"
"Sure." Ash told Charmander to do that, & Misty shoved her tent in the hole.
Then she got in & closed the zipper entrance. "What are doing, Misty?"
"I'm gonna change for the spring too." Ash relaxed in the spring, with Brock
next to him. Misty got out and joined them. Ash just closed his eyes and just meditated
there for a while. Then after a half hour, he got out, crawled into his tent, changed
& ate something. Brock did the same, but Misty fell asleep. Ash woke her up. She
climbed into her tent & changed clothes. Then she asked Ash if she could use her
portable stove. He let her use it. The next day, the blizzard had blown over & they
made it to the volcano base.
Chapter 16: Estate Exploration
Misty walked into the room they would be sleeping in. "Wow! I can't believe how much
room is in
here! It's huge!" she exclaimed.
Ash stepped through the door after her. "You're right! Books to read, a television,
encyclopedias,
and even a telephone!" was all Ash could say looking at the size of the place.
"I can't believe we
got this room by just having a Boulder Badge!". Brock was in the lobby, getting some
lunch. Ash took
his backpack off & put it in a corner. "Misty, when does the first bus leave to
make a trip through
the volcano?" he asked, wanting to catch some Fire Pokemon.
"Tomorrow. I don't want to go, but I'll come with you anyway. There are some crystal
clear mountain
spring lakes here. The water's so clean here, you can just dip your hands into a stream
& take a
nice, cold drink." She gazed out the window. There was frost on the ground & a
chilly draft was
flowing through the room. Misty normally would be headed for the blankets right now, but
she (for
once) liked the cold. It felt clean, and good. She just slumped down in a chair &
collected herself.
Ash walked over to the queen-sized bed he was sharing with Misty, and buried himself in
the thick
blankets. He wondered, "What if Squirtle can't cut it in the volcano? What'll I do if
that happens-
ask Misty? She won't even be there, much less let me borrow one of her Pokemon."
"Maybe I do want to go. I don't want to be like Brock on the Sea Queen. I know. I'll
just forget
capturing Pokemon & just watch Ash & Brock. Yeah.". "Hey, Ash. Forget
what I said earlier. I'll go
with you to the volcano." She then climbed into the queen-sized bed with Ash to warm
up. "Whoa,
Misty. You're freezing!" Ash exclaimed.
"Yeah, you're right." Misty was shivering. Misty huddled up against Ash, who was
still cold, but
not nearly as cold as Misty was. Misty hugged Ash, not mainly because of love or of
friendship (but
both of these still existed between them) but because of that pure cold. Ash figured he
might as
well hug her back. "Ash, you know what we really need?"
"Something hot..." They let go of each other.
"There are springs around here." Brock burst in.
"There are?" Misty & Ash gasped in amazement.
"Yeah. It's a crystal clear mountain lake just on this estate." Brock explained.
"Is it heated? I mean, could you swim in it if you wanted?" Misty prodded.
"Well, it's not what you'd call a 'hot spring', but it is warmed. It averages around
70 degrees."
Brock continued. "If you went out now and came out you'd probably freeze to
death." He slumped into
his bed & just watched T.V. Then he turned it off & fell to sleep. Ash & Misty
walked out to lunch
without Brock. After they finished, they wandered back to the log cabin on the estate.
They let a
pretty eventless hour go by: of watching the 12-o'-clock news & Ash opened his
Pokédex for Fire
Pokemon. Then, when that was over, Misty spoke to Ash: "Well, I'm getting bored.
Wanna go to that
spring Brock mentioned & swim?"
"Sure, but we don't even know where it is." Ash exclaimed.
"Come on. Follow me. I have a map of the whole place. I'm writing him a note.
<scribbles a note,
puts on her bed> Come on, let's go." Misty looked at the map so she had an idea of
where she was
going. Misty noticed this spring he had mentioned was in another log cabin. "There it
is, Ash!".
Misty began to run toward it. Ash was at her heels because it was really cold out. They
walked in,
and it was empty! "I don't get it. This place should be full." Misty exclaimed.
"It's probably because no one's around in the middle of the winter." Ash
replied. He walked off
into a changing room, and Misty did the same thing. When they came out, hey immediately
got into the
spring, because it was cold. Misty had undone her hair bun, then she took a deep breath
& looked
around in the water. It was crystal clear, sparkling blue. The rocks in the pool had a
strange rust
brown color on them. Then she noticed Ash to her right & tapped him on the leg. He
looked down at
her, then Misty signaled him under. Ash did what she said. Misty pointed at the rocks, and
gave Ash
a 'what's going on?' look. Her eyes were getting dry. "But why?" she wondered.
Then she saw Ash with
his eyes closed. He surfaced, Misty after him. "Ash, my eyes are dry!" Misty
squealed in pain.
Normally, she would never complain about this, but she was now.
Chapter 17: Miserableness
"Don't ask me why, but I think we should get back to the room!" Ash slowly
walked back in to
change, and when he & Misty came out, they felt fine. They walked, close to each
other, back to
their log cabin. Misty opened the door to see Brock still sleeping in his bed. They
tiptoed back to
the bed they were sharing, and put the blankets from their back packs to help keep warm.
They
crawled into the blankets, and even with each other were still freezing! They touched each
other on
the shoulder, and they knew it: The entire base was into the blackness of a power failure.
Brock woke up to Ash & Misty's small squeaks & chatters from the cold. Seeing them
be so close to
each other & still so cold made him wince a little. Then Ash & Misty let go of
each other & fell
into a restless sleep. Ash was cold... so cold. He just looked at Misty (who was staring
at Ash
blankly) and he could just tell she had never been so cold indoors in her 13-year (?)
life. Misty
knew the same thing went for Ash in his 11-year life. Brock, however, didn't mind the
cold.
He was just worried about Ash & Misty: "I don't get it. Why does it seem Ash
& Misty can fend for
themselves so well, and then here everything falls apart?" he wondered. Ash &
Misty kept sleeping
for the rest of the day, then Misty woke up to complete darkness. She felt warmer. Ash was
still
sleeping next to her. She heard a small banging on the roof. She realized it was raining
or hailing.
Ash woke up. In a whisper: "Misty, do you feel better? And what's that banging?"
"I think it's just rain. I feel fine. At least my eyes aren't as dry as they used to
be." she
replied, happy. It was still getting colder... the power was still out... it was starting
to snow
out. Misty did feel warmer than she used to, and despite that she still felt a little
cold. The wind
was beginning to howl out. Ropes had been strung out from the cabins to the main office of
the base.
Ash looked out at the alarm clock at his bedside. It was dark. No light. Ash had had it.
He got out
of the bed & got on his knees. He crawled over to their backpacks & grabbed his.
He put it on the
bed & did the same to Misty's. "Ash, why'd you bring these?" Misty asked in
a whisper.
"To help keep us warm." then he dozed back off to sleep. So did Misty.
Chapter 18: Snow, Ice, Team Rocket?
Misty woke up to Ash's stirring in bed. There was light outside. A white sheet of
beautiful snow
covered the ground. "Ash. Hey, Ash- wake up." in a concerned whisper. She gave
him a small shove.
"Misty? Oh, it's just you." Ash gazed off to his right to Misty. He got up on an
arm. "What do you
want to do today, anyway?" he asked, wondering what they would do on such a cold,
freezing day.
"Let's goof off in the snow. The power's back on & all the other utilities."
Misty then reached
into her backpack & got out her coat & sweatpants. She walked into the bathroom
& put them on. Ash
after her, and Brock after Ash. Misty had some gloves on & she started to dig a tunnel
in the snow!
"Careful, Misty. If the roof collapses over you, there's no air!" Brock warned.
Misty just dug into
the snow with her gloved hands, then when she got nearly to the grassy ground, started
digging into
the wall for some distance. Misty was on her hands & knees for this part of the
digging. Ash
followed her. They kept on going for a while. It wasn't tiring, so Misty just kept on
digging
through the snow. Over this period, the temperature rose a little. Ash & Brock began
to dig their
own tunnels.
Later that day, the temperature fell back a little, sort of 'gluing' the snow to each
other so it
hardened. From now on, new tunnels were harder to dig & more prone to collapsing.
Misty curled up in
the small chamber at the end of her snow tunnel. Above her head was about 5 feet of snow!
It was
that deep! She just wandered around in her head about what it would be like in the
volcano. She did
have a vague idea; it was gonna look something like Cinnabar Island Gym, minus the gym,
which didn't
leave much but a boiling lava pit with messloads of Magmar. She then heard a loud crunch.
She looked
around, and then she realized snow was blocking the exit! "Hmm," a male voice
said, "looks like the
twerp isn't around."
"Yeah, but let's make sure. Arbok, go!" Ash & Brock heard all of this &
realized it was Team
Rocket! Arbok came out of its Poke Ball and immediately got back in. "Arbok!"
Jessie glared, "What
are you doing!"
Ash, Misty & Brock all froze. They didn't know what to do. "Looks like it's time
we blasted off!"
James yelped. Team Rocket left quietly. Misty realized she only had a couple of minutes
down there,
so she tried to make a hole in the roof. No use! "Ash!" she screamed to get some
help on getting out
of there.
"Misty? Is that you?" Ash & Misty barely heard each other. Ash crawled over
to where the entrance
of Misty's cave should be, but saw it was just a wall. He tried to dig through it, but it
wouldn't
budge. He then called on his Charmander. It was a risky move to burn the block down, but
Ash had no
other choice. Brock heard the Flamethrower attack on the collapsed roof. Ash called
Charmander back,
and saw Misty. Her face was blue. She felt the draft come in, then exhaled. She looked
drearily at
Ash with slightly bloodshot eyes, then closed them. Misty felt like she was going to black
out. But
she didn't. Ash saw her face slowly lessen its blue tinge and finally came back to her
normal white.
"Misty... do you feel okay?"
"Just a little weak." Misty then crawled out of the cave & walked into the
cabin. She took her coat
off. Ash followed her. Brock stayed outside, not having a clue what happened. Misty got
back in the
bed. Ash told Brock that Misty was in the cabin & he was going to get dinner. The day
passes...
Chapter 19: The Road
Ash & friends walked into the main office of the base. "Greetings. I understand
you want to go to
the volcano. Unfortunately, the road that leads there is iced over. When the ice melts,
I'll call
your cabin.". A lady was standing behind the desk & was typing into a computer.
"Uh oh. Brock. Hello
in there!!!" Misty squeaked when she noticed Brock was blushing.
"Excuse me, miss, but I don't really know my way around here. Maybe we could get
together tonight &
you could show me around?" in one of his most gentleman-like voices.
The clerk smiled a nervous smile, and Ash guessed she made up an excuse. "Uh, sorry,
I've got a lot
of work to do tonight."
"All right, come on Brock, let's get something to eat. <winks at Ash>".
Now Misty was making up
excuses! She dragged Brock off & Ash followed.
At about 1 in the afternoon, the clerk called Ash's cabin. Ash & friends got into some
light
clothes & coats for the volcano, and walked into the lobby where the clerk was
waiting. "You are the
only group who's going now, so this way please." she pointed. The corridor was pretty
much
self-explanatory.
They all just realized it lead a long way & sloped slightly down. When they finally
saw daylight at
the end, they also noticed an open air bus with things on the end that looked a lot like
the Poké
Ball launchers they used on their diving trip. The driver explained they were similar to
that but a
land-based version. On the way to the volcano, the driver blared on the on-bus intercom,
"There are
3 lava chambers in the volcano. We will hang around in each one for about 30 minutes. You
will exit
the bus to find Pokémon, then run back on board to launch your Pokémon into battle. If
successful,
you will put an empty Poké Ball into the launcher to capture Pokémon." Brock asked,
"What Pokémon
are usually found here?"
"Very good question. Lots of Vulpix & Growlithe, few Magmar, even less Arcanine,
and 1 or 2
Ninetales. One person even claims to have seen a Moltres."
"Moltres? Isn't that the Pokémon that lights the torch for the Pokémon
League?"
"Yeah."
"I'm freezing." Misty complained.
"So am I." Ash replied, but that didn't comfort Misty the slightest bit. The
driver kept the bus
going along this gravel road. "I should mention there's a stop on the road coming
back down the
mountain." he blared over the intercom.
The bus finally drove into the volcano. "So Ash, are you scared yet?" Misty
prodded.
Chapter 20: The Beginning of the Volcano Troubles
"No way. I've already know what it's like in a volcano & what Pokémon you find
there. Remember
Cinnabar Gym?" Ash replied, sounding bold, but had a few butterflies in his stomach.
"Well, okay." Misty actually showed that she had the butterflies. She felt like
Ash when he battled
Blaine for the Volcano Badge. Except, s h e was battling him.
"We have arrived!" the driver blared. Ash & friends were sweltering. They
had taken their coats off
long before this, but it got a lot worse. Ash put Squirtle's Poké Ball in the launcher
and fired.
"Squirtle, Water Gun on the entire lava field." Ash wasn't feeling his best.
Misty sent out her
Starmie. "Starmie, Water Gun on the lava." Misty slumped down on a seat.
Squirtle & Starmie kept on it, and after they covered nearly the whole pit, Ash &
Misty tried to
call their Pokémon back. It was no use! There was so much steam, they couldn't see a foot
in front
of their faces! They couldn't even see each other in the bus (remember, it's open air...)!
Nothing
they did helped! It was a choking steam, almost like swimming in whitewater in Misty's
eye. It
burned a little in their throats. The driver said, "There are gas masks in the seat
pockets!" Ash &
Misty quickly headed over & almost ran into each other! They put the masks on easily.
Ash, Misty & Brock then got out of the bus to find their Pokémon. Ash & Misty
were the only ones
that needed to get out, but Brock tagged along anyway. The steam was as thick as the
Viridian
Forest. You just couldn't see through it. Ash thought it was like a hot whiteout in the
mountains.
Then the smoke cleared, & a figure stood before the 3 friends. It was a Vulpix. It
slowly prodded
among the clearing steam, and performed a Flamethrower attack that nearly baked Brock. Ash
didn't
know what to make of it. He pulled out Dexter: "Wild Vulpix can detect if a trainer
has a captive
Vulpix. If it realizes that, it becomes enraged and will attack ferociously."
"Starmie!" Misty
cried, "Surf!" The wild Vulpix let a Fire Blast go toward Brock! The Surf from
Misty's Starmie
neutralized the Fire Blast. "Misty calls Staryu!" she cried, in an effort to
stop the wild Vulpix.
"During this situation," Dexter said "Vulpix becomes enraged so much that
its defense increases
greatly and becomes almost impossible to beat". "Uh oh. Squirtle, I choose you!
Hydro Pump!" Ash
screamed.
"Onix, go! Rock Throw!" Brock couldn't believe it. 2 Pokémon were already
unloading some serious
damage on this Vulpix, & it still kept coming! "Maybe," he thought,
"3's the charm!", a smile
creeping onto his face. "Staryu! Water Gun!" Misty cried.
"Squirtle! Give it your Water Gun!" Ash cried.
"Onix! Earthquake!" Brock commanded.
This all combined f i n a l l y defeated the Vulpix. "Poké Ball, go!" Misty
cried." This one was
a piece of cake. The wild Vulpix was so weak, the Poké Ball didn't shake even once. Misty
walked
over & picked the ball up. She felt pretty proud of herself. Then they all piled onto
the bus & the
driver took them to the second stop.
Chapter 21: The Second, no... Third Stop
Ash, Misty, & Brock slowly walked back onto the bus. Ash & Misty were roasting in
that volcano. Ash
slumped over on his seat as if it were a bed. "I don't get it." he thought to
himself, "Why is it so
hot here? Even Cinnabar Island Gym isn't even as bad as this!" They found nothing in
the second stop
but heat, so they wearily sat there, not knowing how far it'd be till they could get a
much-needed
drink. They hadn't caught anything but a Vulpix for Misty. And even at that, they all had
to use 1
Pokémon for each person in a group. Misty was just too hot to do much, Ash thought this
could wait,
and Brock, for some odd reason, acted like it wasn't hot at all. "Hey, Brock,"
Misty said, "aren't
you feeling the heat at all?". Misty was drenched, and Brock acted as if this was
nothing.
"Not at all." he replied. "You feeling okay?" he asked, a little
worried.
"I feel... just terrible." The bus finally got to the third & final stop in
the volcano. There was
one more stop along the road coming back to the mountain base. Ash slowly walked out of
the bus.
Brock almost ran out of the bus. Misty, well, she was satisfied, & even if she wasn't,
she wouldn't
get out. Ash & Brock started wandering around to find something. 10 minutes of this
went by to no
avail. Ash was seperated from Brock, but he didn't care. He did have his Squirtle. Almost
anything
Brock sent out stood a chance against the Fire Pokémon that were to be faced here. Ash
started
really searching by sending out Squirtle to use Water Gun to see if there was anything in
1 of the
lava pits.
Brock just wandered around to see if anything was out of the lava pits. Ash & Squirtle
finally
found something. A Magmar. Ash knew this Pokémon could dish out some serious damage.
"Squirtle!
Start this battle with a Tackle attack!" The Magmar aimed a Fire Blast right for
Squirtle. It
missed... and was headed straight for the bus! The driver & Misty screamed. It hit in
the big, empty
space between Misty & the driver and started a fire! The driver just opened the door
& ran out.
Misty checked both sides of the bus. There were lava pits on either side! Misty had an
idea.
"Starmie! Use a spinning Tackle to get me out of here!" Meanwhile, the battle
between Ash & Magamar
raged on. Brock saw what was going on & helped out with his Poliwhirl & Geodude.
"Hey Ash!" Brock
called out, "the bus is burning!"
Ash: "I know that! I think she's got a plan! Squirtle, Water Gun!"
Misty's Starmie twirled around and almost missed tackling her. Her reflexes were good
though, and
she hung on. Misty eventually hit the rock floor in a heap next to Ash. "Misty, come
on, get up! We
need you in this battle!" Ash helped Misty up to her feet. "Ow!" she
yelped. Ash laid her back
down. Then she crawled over to a wall, and leaned up against it on her left leg.
"Starmie! Give it
your Surf!" she cried, not wanting to let Ash down completely. The Magmar was finally
defeated. Ash
caught it for Professor Oak and transproted it immediately. The he called the base to get
another
bus for himself & Brock, and medical attention for Misty, who favored that right ankle
of hers
severely. Ash & Brock had to help her onto the second bus that came 20 minutes later.
When they got
back to the base, Brock went to Pewter City. Misty had to get to Cerulean City with an
ambulance,
leaving Ash right out there in the middle of nowhere!
Chapter 22: Ash's Dad
Ash didn't know what to do. Brock had already left to Pewter because he claimed 'it was
too
boring'. He felt like Brock really let him down. Ash didn't know what to do: see his mom
in Pallet,
or try to keep up with Misty who was headed to Cerulean. He decided to call Misty. She
only told him
to wait for a call to his house & they'd meet in Viridian City. Ash knew what he had
to do. Go west
on Route 3 to Pewter, then south on Route 2 & 1 to Pallet, where he could get lots of
advice from
Professor Oak. 5 days of travel for Ash pass...
Deep in the Viridian Forest, Ash is getting ready to set up camp. His eyes were half
closed in his
tent when he heard & felt some footsteps. "Is this the camp of Ash Ketchum?"
a loud voice boomed.
Ash didn't know what to make of it. Should he open his tent, or just say 'no' in a fake
voice? He
opened his tent up, and the man spoke. "Ash. It's been a long time."
"Who are you?"
"I am your father. Care to battle?" he challenged.
Ash jumped. "Let's go!" Ash accepted.
"1 on 1. Go, Fearow!"
Ash pulled out his Pokédex. "Fearow, the beak Pokémon. Can fly for hours without
getting tired. Has
lots of stamina & is extremely powerful in battle. Fearow has Normal & Flying
types." "Go, Pikachu!"
"Fearow! Start this off with a Fury Attack!"
"Pikachu, fight back with a Thunderbolt!" The Fearow crashed into Pikachu while
Pikachu was
building up its attack. The Fearow fainted, then the 'dad' called it back & walked
off.
"Nice battle, Pikachu!" "Pika!" it chirped. Then Pikachu jumped into
Ash's arms for a Potion & some
TLC. First light came out, and Ash kept on going to Pallet. 1 day passes with nothing
going on.
Chapter 23: Pokémon & People (need a better name; e-mail me at wessand7@gte.net )
Ash was finally on Route 1. He was excited that he was going to see his mom, and be a
little
impaitent to meet back up with Misty.
Halfway through a patch of long grass, he felt something sharp hit his leg. Then the end
of it
pressed i n t o his leg. He didn't like that too much. Ash immediately knew a Weedle stung
him.
He limped out of the grass & gave himself some Antidote. "Bulbasaur, go! Chop
down the grass with
your Razor Leaf!" Ash & Bulbasaur saw the Weedle.
Ash called Bulbsaur back, & sent out his Pidgeotto! "Pidgeotto, Wing
Attack!" The Weedle tried to
fight back with Poison Sting, but Pidgeotto was too good. "Poké Ball, go!" Ash
cried. It was an easy
catch. Ash transported it to Oak's lab- he had no use for it. He kept moving along Route 1
& finally
made it home.
"Mom! I'm home!" Ash just opened the door. No answer. He then walked into his
mom's room. He found
her sleeping there, so he just slowly slunked off into his room. He picked up the handset
on the
videophone and called Cerulean. "Hello. Cerulean City Gym."
"Hi, Misty. I'm-"
"Ash!" She smiled. "Oh, Ash, where have you been?"
"Struggling along to get to Pallet. I a m calling you from my house. It's so nice to
see you...
how's your ankle?"
"It's fine. I was waiting for your call. I just sprained my ankle really bad. Where's
Brock?"
Ash groaned. "He claims it's a little too boring following me around."
"Boring?" Misty didn't believe it.
"Well, at least that's what he said. Where do you want to go to next? I sort of want
to go to the
Orange Islands & see if I can find my Butterfree."
"Don't leave Pallet Town." Misty said with urgency. "I'll drop by there
& call you every night. See
ya!" Misty hung up, and so did Ash.
Chapter 24: Pallet Town Peril
3 days later, Misty was just seeing the outskirts of Pallet. She had just woke up &
started moving.
After a while, Ash's house was just ahead. She walked up to the door & rang the
doorbell. Ash
answered. "Misty. Come on in." They walked into Ash's room. Misty took her
backpack off & put it in
a corner. "We should start moving now. I really want my Butterfree back!" Ash
suggested. Misty then
said, "How do you know you'll find Butterfree in the Orange Islands?"
"Oak told me that one." Misty put her pack on as if to agree. They walked out
the door & headed
south toward the coast where they could just ride Misty's Lapras to Cinnabar where they
would get
rest, and then sail off to Valencia Island. They were only halfway out of town when
Misty's foot got
stuck in the road! A pit had been dug in the road & they fell in! "Owwww."
Ash complained. "Who put
this here?"
"Who else but Team Rocket?" Misty replied, not a bit happy about this.
Then, they heard a familiar voice. "Heh, well, if it isn't Ash."
"Gary!" Ash stormed. "What do you want?" as he & Misty slowly
climbed out of the pitfall.
"Nothing... but a Pokémon battle... with your friend." Ash couldn't believe it.
"Why does Gary want
to battle Misty?" he wondered. "Now, let's she what she's made of! Go,
Nidoking!" The powerful
Nidoking burst out of its Poké Ball.
"Misty calls Staryu!"
"Careful, Misty. Gary packs a lot of power in each Pokémon."
"Nidoking, Horn Attack!" Gary's Nidoking alomst hit Staryu, but it was hanging
tough.
"Staryu, Light Screen & Water Gun!" One of Misty's wondrous training
techniques allowed Staryu to
get 2 attacks off at one time!
"Finish it, Nidoking! Hyper Beam now!" Gary cried in a last-ditch effort.
"Staryu, keep putting up more Light Screens!" Staryu put up Light Screens as
fast as Nidoking was
destroying them. Then Nidoking stopped, and collapsed to its knees. It was tired out!
"Staryu, Surf!
Finish it off!" "Too much! Too good!" Gary thought. Nidoking fainted. Gary
was forced to call it
back. "I surrender!" he cried, not believing he had lost to Misty. He stormed
off, not the slightest
bit happy. Ash & Misty kept going on to the coast. (If you're keeping track, it's
September at this
point)
Chapter 25: Surfing to Cinnabar
When Ash & Misty finally got to the coast, Misty sent out her Lapras & they got
on. "Wow, Misty. I
can't believe how big this Lapras is compared to the Lapras I used to have."
She chuckled. "Ash, you had an underwater view of it. I'm suprised you're
suprised!" They laid down
on the Lapras. There was nothing to do, but flip through your Pokédex or just wander
around in your
mind. It was a drag- Ash & Misty eventually fell asleep. When they woke up...
... Ash thought, "Have I been dreaming?" Then he realized where he was. In the
middle of nowhere. A
full moon was out, and Misty's Lapras' eyelids were drooping. He realized he needed to
wake the
sleeping Misty up & ask if he could use an Awakening on it. Ash shoved her a little.
She slowly
opened her eyes & saw a straight-looking Ash. Then he spoke. "Misty. Your Lapras
needs an
Awakening."
Misty yawned. "Get one from my backpack.", and right after that she fell back to
sleep. Then Ash
saw a small island, no bigger than a pyramid of 200 by 200 Poké Balls square, just big
enough to set
up a camp. It also had a palm tree with lots of coconuts on it. "Misty! Look over
there!" Ash
pointed. "We can set out our tents there!" The Lapras started to change course
& swam over to it.
Ash jumped off & immediately started setting up his tent. Once he did that, he jumped
in & started
sleeping. Misty just got her some sheets & blankets out and forgot about the tent. It
was easy to
fall asleep on Sea Route 21. The tiny waves & slight breeze lulled you to sleep. The
next day...
Ash woke up to hear his stomach growling at him. Misty was up before that, but woke up to
no
sounds. She wasn't moving, though, just waiting for Ash to wake up. There was no rush.
"Butterfree."
Ash thought. "I have to get it back." He slowly got up. "Well, let's get
going, Misty."
"Yeah, you're right, it won't do us any good to do nothing and bake out here. Let's
forget Lapras &
use some of our other Pokémon. Starmie!"
"Squirtle!" Misty set up her tent & got into her bathing suit. So did Ash.
Then they put their
tents into their backpacks, put them on, and finally jumped in the water & hung on for
a long ride.
A day passes quietly, and they found another small island to camp on. Then the cooked a
large dinner
to make up for not eating all day. Then they fell into a restless sleep, not bothering to
set up
their tents. So here they are, out in the middle of the sea, with nothing but the word
'south' to
guide them. The night passes. In about ˝ a day, they finally make it to Cinnabar.
Chapter 26: Waterworld
Once Ash & Misty left Cinnabar, they headed west on Misty's Lapras. Another day
passed. Nothing big
happened. Lapras needed a rest, so Misty had to call it back & they used other
Pokémon. "Misty, when
do you think we can rids Lapras again?" Ash questioned.
"I don't know. I know how you feel."
"Yeah." Ash replied, his voice softening. Day changed to night, and they hadn't
seen any land all
day. "Misty calls Lapras!" She had to let go of Staryu & have Ash hold Misty
so either of them could
throw. And even at that, the last word was almost said underwater. When the ball opened
the duo
expected it to surface. But instead, it had its eyes closed & was sinking fast.
Misty saw this & hurried to get its Poké Ball which was floating, and then dive down
& call it
back. So she & Ash surfaced, Misty grabbed the empty ball, & Ash waited for her at
the surface. When
Misty looked down, she saw a small silhouette that looked sort of like the Lapras. She
aimed for it
with her Poké Ball, and it hit, but it wasn't Lapras. It then straightened out, and Misty
realized
it wasn't just herself & Ash out there. "Gyrados!" she thought, "We'll
never get out of here!" She
forgot about her Lapras, but instead when she surfaced, Ash was on it. "Ash,"
she screamed, "there's
a Gyrados in the water!"
"So what can we do?" as he pulled her on her Lapras.
"Our only hope to stay away from a Dragon Rage attack on us: Get underwater &
stay there for as
long as you can!"
"Keep it down." Ash said in a harsh whisper, "Shouldn't that be easy? We do
have those green
needles."
"Well, yeah. Lapras, return." Misty called it back, putting them back in the
water. "Starmie!"
"Squirtle!" and then they dove into the water, each of them giving themselves
green needles. Ash &
Misty looked at each other, held their breath, kept a good, firm grip on their Pokémon,
and waited.
Their only motion was the slow ocean current. Ash looked up, and tried to remember what
Misty told
him in Cerulean Gym about constellations & the North Star. He remembered exactly what
Misty told
him, but couldn't make out where the stars were because of the ocean waves.
Misty then got his attention by tapping him on the shoulder & pointing. That Gyrados
was after
them! Ash nearly screamed, but he stopped himself. Misty had a pretty god lead on Ash, but
she
slowed down a little, allowing him to catch up, and she picked up the pace again. Ash
looked over
his shoulder. Gyrados's mouth was shining a bright yellow! He knew what that meant. Hyper
Beam!
Misty saw it too, but didn't do what Ash thought she would. She slowed down, and stopped.
Misty
grabbed Ash's free arm. She held on.
Ash knew she was trying to tell him something. "Maybe," Ash thought, "she's
not doing this to give
ourselves up, but rather keep us going." Ash looked over at her, and gave her a
'what's going on?'
face. She just smiled at him, knowing that Gyrados sense movement, & don't chase
things that are
moving. The wild Gyrados aimed the beam at the ocean floor, just barely shaking Ash &
Misty up. Now
Misty tapped Ash on the shoulder & signaled for him to follow her, which was the
surface. "Misty,
that was awesome! If it wasn't for you, we'd be as flat as pancakes!"
She could only blush a little & smile at him. No words- she didn't need any- for that.
Misty did
say this "There's an island! We can set up camp!". She called her Starmie back
& backstroked her way
there, and realized she was swimming west. Ash followed her. They set up their tents. Ash
couldn't
cook with saltwater, so he took the label off a can, put the can in the fire, then he
quickly threw
it in the water. He got his can opener out, opened it, and got a spoon & ate the corn
that was in
it. Misty didn't know why, but she wasn't hungry, so she got in her tent & started
sleeping while
Ash was eating. A day passes...
Chapter 27: Orange Island Storm
Ash & Misty finally got off at Valencia Island after 3 mind-numbing days at sea.
"<sigh> Oh, it's
nice to be able to walk around!" Ash exclaimed after getting off & stretching.
"You're right. I feel smaller from being cramped up from riding on Lapras &
camping out on islands.
No offense, Lapras, return!" They walked into the only town on Valencia & had
their Pokémon treated
at the Pokémon Center and finally got a good meal from a restaurant.
Ash & Misty got back on Lapras. They didn't go anywhere, Ash just wanted to call
Professor Oak so
they wouldn't get lost. He told him that island was in the southwesternest island, and it
was barely
a speck of densely forested land. So Misty pointed Lapras that way, and they were off. 2
days of
sailing & swimming & camping out on islands go by without any meaning. Then, on
that 3rd day, Misty
has a bad feeling. She knew it wasn't seasickness- water was almost her 2nd natural
element. She
just had a feeling something was bound to go wrong going to sleep that 2nd night. She
decide to set
her tent up, just in case. Ash always did, rain or shine. The next morning...
Misty just knew something was wrong. She dreamed about being the captain of a ship that
was
traveling through a terrible storm, and having to get through it. She tried to keep on
course, but
the current was too much & the ship crashed into some rocks! Then with a loud outside
sound, woke up
with all her muscles tensed at the same time. Ash was moving his tent toward hers, so they
were
face-to-face when they opened them. Misty also realized it was raining out, and it was
still in the
before dawn hours. "Misty!" She could barely make out Ash's voice! "Open
your tent!" Zziipp! Ash &
Misty opened their tents up at the same time. "I knew this was coming." Misty
said, losing
confidence.
"How?"
"Oh, I felt like something bad was going to happen. I had a dream that I was the
captain of a ship,
and it crashed into some rocks & sunk, then I woke up. It was raining, and you called
me by name."
And as if that wasn't enough, a bolt of thunder underscored it. Ash & Misty jumped
into each other's
arms because of it. They were scared & making small noises. Another thunderclap!
"Ash, I'm scared!"
Misty squealed.
"Misty, it's only thunder. It's not like it's gonna hit us." as he let go of
her. It was dark &
noisy in there. They could barely make out each other's faces. Ash only knew he was
talking to Misty
thanks to her ponytail, and Misty recognized Ash's voice. "We need our rest, Misty.
Good night. I
love you." and Ash pretended to get some 'sleep' but there was too much noise.
"I love you, too, Ash. Good night... if we come out alive." and Misty couldn't
sleep. Too much
noise.
Chapter 28: Storm Surfing
Ash & Misty finally fell into a restless sleep. The next morning, Ash wakes up to a
still stormy
(but not nearly as bad) morning. He woke Misty up. "Misty, Misty wake up."
"Hi, Ash."
"We should get going."
"Don't you think it's too rough?"
"I have to get Butterfree. I completely understand if you're not coming with
me."
"Doesn't matter- I'm going with you, if you're going."
"Then let's go!" Ash & Misty packed their tents & got a Water Pokémon
out. "Squirtle!"
"Starmie! Huh? Not you, Psyduck. Hey, what's going on?"
"It's evolving!"
"Golduck!" Misty hugged it, but called it back & got Starmie out.
"Well, let's get this over with
Ash!" She took a deep breath, and Misty & Starmie dove in. Ash & Squirtle
were right behind her. Ash
surfaced, and got a compass out. Misty surfaced, not knowing why Ash wasn't leading her.
"Hmm. If
that's north, then we need to go that way!"
"Uh, Ash, that's right toward the middle of the storm."
"I know that. Let's go, Squirtle!" The water wasn't choppy enough to make it so
that traveling
under the water faster, so they kept moving along the surface. An hour of this goes by and
Ash &
Misty aren't even Ľ of the way there yet! Misty had to switch Pokémon, and Ash needed to
figure out
a way to give Squirtle a Potion. He had take his pack off, and get a Potion without
getting any
water in there! Somehow he managed, and Squirtle was good to go again. Misty had it easy:
call
Starmie back & send out her Staryu. Anyway, they kept on going. Ash knew they were
heading the right
way. The clouds in this part of the storm were darkening, and the waves were getting
worse. There
was also a constant rain, but Ash & Misty were so wet they didn't notice it.
"Ash!" Misty had to
yell to be heard over the storm, "Now's when I think we go down underwater & keep
it that way. All
this time Ash & Misty were within 10 feet of each other. Now Ash grabbed Misty's hand.
They now didn't have to yell. "You're right. On 3 <Misty joins in the count>
1... 2... 3..." and
they were under courtesy of a big wave. Ash & Misty gave each other green needles
& hung on for the
ride. Ash realized he was running out of air. His 5 minutes were almost up. So were
Misty's.
Squirtle & Staryu struggled against the rough current to get to the surface. Then Ash
saw it. An
island in the shape of a Butterfree. "Misty, there it is!"
Chapter 29: Island Cave
"Yeah, I see it too!" She was forced under by a current before she could finish.
Ash kept a firm
hold on Misty's hand. "I won't let Misty go." Ash thought to himself. Ash
thought his left arm was
going to fall off. Misty couldn't take it any longer! She had to surface! Then she
realized she had
something that could get her up. She put everything she had into getting a breath. "I
can't let her
down. Not now. Not after everything we've gone through together. No after the S.S. Anne,
or the Sea
Queen. Not after the bridge that lead to Server." Ash thought. He gave it his all to
get her up
there.
"I can't let Ash down. He needs me. Brock needed me- although, I've never needed him
that much."
Misty thought. She gave it everything she had, and finally got a breath.
"Misty!"
"Ash, my Lapras, it's our only hope- grab one of the nothes on its shell, put me
between you & the
shell... please trust me on this one... please Ash." Misty said, so weak she felt
like she was about
to blackout.
Ash knew he had to call Staryu & Squirtle back. "Which Poké Ball?" he
asked, not knowing what to
do.
"This one." Misty reached in & immediately called Staryu back & got
Lapras out.
"Squirtle, return!" The winds were howling by now. The clouds were so dark, if
you didn't have a
watch you'd think it was late at night, when in reality it was only around 10:30 in the
morning.
"Well Misty, I hope this plan you have to get us out of this mess works. Take a deep
breath!" Ash
gave her another much needed green needle, and also gave one to himself. Ash knew if he
ever let go,
they were a couple of goners, and if he didn't keep Misty pressed into the shell of
Lapras, she was
a goner, and he knew he'd be next if that happened.
Misty once told him that deeper you go in the sea, the calmer the water is. He realized
now would
be a good time to try that. He pushed Lapras down a little, and it got the message; dive
further
down. Now Ash could get a better look at her to see of she had bumped into anything while
they both
tried to get Misty to the surface. Ash let her loose, swam around her, and saw nothing
unusual.
"She's just tired." he thought. Ash then slowly moved her over to Lapras, and
pinned her again. This
time though, he found a big notch & put Misty's hands around it.
Then Lapras rose to about 20 feet, where there was a current strong enough to push them
along. Ash
saw a cave, underwater access, where he knew the outside storm would be meaningless. Ash
told Lapras
to get over there. When they got there, Misty blacked out. Ash was a little concerned, but
he knew
she'd wake up.
Her pulse wasn't out of the ordinary, and she had taken a breath when they entered the
underwater
cave. Ash set up his tent & dried himself off with a towel, then got something to eat.
"Hmm? Where
am I- this isn't my tent or my room. And where is Ash? How did I get in this weird cave?
The last
thing I remember is Ash swimming around me like I was the hole of a doughnut."
Nothing made sense to
her. Misty realized she had her backpack & she was soaked. She called back her Lapras,
which was
sleeping. There wasn't too much light, but she knew she was lying next to a tent.
"Ash? Are you in
there?"
He was already awake from the sound of Misty calling back Lapras. "Yeah, this is me
Misty. Your
plan worked!"
Misty then started asking all those questions. "What happened after you swam around
me like I was a
hole & you were the doughnut?"
"I did that to see if anything had happened to you when I tried to get you out of the
water in that
nasty current. I didn't see any bruises or bleeding, so then I grabbed your hands, put
them around a
bigger notch in Lapras's shell, and then I grabbed the same notch. Do you hurt
anywhere?" She begun
to dry herself off with a towel.
"No."
"I signaled for Lapras to follow me into this cave, and that's why we're here."
"What island are we in- if this is an island..."
"It's the island with all the Butterfree." Misty started to set up her tent face
to face with the
zipper entrances. Ash left the zipper open on his tent. Misty didn't bother with eating
that night-
she was too tired. "I love you even more now, Ash."
"I love you, Misty. Good night." They heard Jigglypuff's song coming from the
ouside, which got
them sleeping quickly, as if their being tired wasn't enough to put them to sleep.
Chapter 30: Cave Entrance
Ash woke up. He didn't know what time it was, or whether the storm was gone. He didn't
know what to
do, either. He checked his watch & it said 8:30 A.M. Ash thought if he could just take
a peek & find
out if the storm was gone, he could wake Misty up without having big question hanging over
his head.
So he jumped in the water, (and unknown to Ash, woke Misty up) and the current was alomst
nonexistent.
Ash swam outside the cave into the open ocean, and saw the sunshine. He turned around the
other
way, getting ready to tell the good news to Misty, when Ash saw her, swimming out to him.
She had
Ash's backpack (and her own, of course)! Ash took his backpack from the smiling Misty, and
made his
way over to the cave for a breath. Misty swam up to the surface. Ash followed her, then
she spoke to
him. "Ash, what were you doing?"
"Checking the weather. Do you see a sandy beach anywhere?"
"No. I've got a strange feeling that the only way on this crazy island in that
cave."
"You could be right." Ash dove underwater, and Misty followed him. When they got
to the cave, Ash
got out of the water & started walking through the cave. "Ash, I can't see
you!" Misty squealed, not
too happy about being in this dark a cave.
Ash could barely make her out, but the light in the water made it possible to see. "I
can see you.
Here, hold my hand. If one of us falls into a pitfall, we both fall. No, wait, Charmander,
I choose
you." Ash picked up the Fire Pokémon in his arms, tail stretched out in front of
Ash. Misty put her
hand on his shoulder. Ash kept walking along, and saw a sign. It read ," Enterance to
Butterfree
Island, up this ladder. Watch out for Stun Spore (gold), Sleep Powder (blue), and worst of
all,
Poison Powder (brown) from the Butterfree battling each other for nesting space. Keep
Rock, Fire, or
Flying Pokémon handy as these are the best to battle wild Butterfree." "I've
got a bad feeling
about this..." Ash said as he started to climb the ladder.
"So do I." Misty said, and Ash knew this could be it. Once Ash had climbed up to
the top of the
ladder, a familiar voice spoke to him, who even knew his name. "Greetings, Ash!"
Ash: "Jonathan?"
Jonathan: "That's me."
Misty heard this & said: "Why aren't you on the Sea Queen?"
Jonathan: "It sank in that hurricane.
Ash: "How did you get out of the storm?"
Jonathan: "I called on my Dewgong. I assume you're lookng for your Butterfree."
Misty: "He is."
Ash: "She's right."
Jonathan: "The nest for your Butterfree is in the middle of the island. However, it
does have a
tracking beacon on it. Use this to find out where it is. <hands Ash an electronic
device> The
blinking light is where your Butterfree is." Ash & Misty walked to where the
thing said Butterfree
was. Once the signal was strong, Ash tried to call Butterfree back. No use.
Butterfree hadn't been its Poké Ball for months, years, maybe, and the ball didn't
recognize
Butterfree. Butterfree didn't recognize Ash either, and tried to use Sleep Powder. Easy to
beat
though, "Charmander, Flamethrower!". The flame scorched the powder, and burned
the Butterfree. Ash
threw his 6th & only empty Poké Ball. It missed. Ash called back Charmander &
sent out Pidgeotto!
"Wing Attack!" Even Butterfree couldn't help but faint from this attack. Ash
threw his Poké Ball
again. It hit, and didn't shake once. "Pidgeotto?" Misty gasped in amazement.
Chapter 31: Evolution in Motion
"It's evolving!" Ash felt a surge of happiness come through him. Then it stopped
glowing, and Ash &
Misty heard the shrill cry of Pidgeot. "It can fly us to Pallet now!" Ash
exclaimed in excitement."
"Come on, Misty." Ash smiled and gave her his hand to get on.
"Okay! <groan from pulling herself on>"
"Just hold on to me. Pidgeot can fly at speeds up to Mach 2, twice the speed of
sound. To Pallet
Town, please, Pidgeot. Misty, if you can't hold on to me, just let yourself go if we're
over water.
And don't forget to scream if that happens!" Ash & Misty felt the lurch of
Pidgeot when they left
the ground. They couldn't do anything but hold on for the ride. "Not much higher that
this,
Pidgeot." Ash warned.
"Ash, I can't hold on." Misty warned.
"Pidgeot, can we land anywhere- huh?" Misty's hands weren't holding him. Misty
screamed. "Misty!"
Ash cried. "Pidgeot, forget landing, fly near the water level." Pidgeot slowly
turned around &
descended lower & lower until Ash could stick his arm out & touch the water. He
didn't see her. Ash
rolled off Pidgeot's back & called it back for a rest. He decided to look for her
himself.
"Squirtle, I choose you! Squirtle, dive in there & see if you can find
Misty." In reality, she was
fine sitting on her Lapras (over the horizon), but Ash didn't know that. Ash could do
nothing but
wait. He wanted to go look himself, but he knew if he got lost he had no Water Pokémon.
So he waited, and waited, and finally he heard Misty's voice! "Ash! Ash! Oh, please
Ash!" They
still couldn't see each other. "Misty! Misty! Can you hear me?" Ash listened
& heard nothing. He
just knew Misty had to be close. "Pidgeot, go! Fly around & see if you can see
Misty!" Squirtle
surfaced & told Ash he found nothing. Ash called Squirtle back.
Ash was getting tired. "Pidgggggooooooottt!" Ash heard Pidgeot. "Pidgeot,
did you find Misty?" It
nodded yes & told him that she was coming toward him. "Pidgeot, return!"
"Ash!" Misty was torturing herself on what to do. "Ash!"
"Misty!" No response- and he didn't know why! "Misty!"
Misty didn't get it. "Pidgeot did tell me Ash was nearby. Why isn't he giving any
respose to my
calls?" "Misty!" Misty jumped. T h a t had to have been Ash. She just knew
it! "Ash!"
"Misty!" Now she was certain. "I can see you!" Ash, overjoyed.
"Ash." She smiled. Ash swam over to Misty's Lapras & got on. "Misty,
<long pause> I though I'd
never see you again."
"I thought this was the end." Misty replied. She was smiling at him.
"So did I. I love you, Misty." and he collapsed, eyes open, staring at her.
"I do too, Ash. Lapras, let's go to Pallet Town. By that night, Ash & Misty are
sleeping in Ash's
house.
The End (finally)
